Photos from Colorado (Pre LOG)

My wife and I arrived in Snowmass on Sunday afternoon to do some hiking and kayaking before LOG. We spent today driving and hiking over Independence Pass. Here are a few photos. The road for Independence pass is in good condition overall, but there are a couple of areas where the edge of the road is crumbling done the side of the mountain. Also lots of places for cars to pull on and off the road for pictures, so it really isn't a great area to push to hard though. Punishment can be the permanent kind if you screw up in several areas so watch yourself (see the first photo looking down the edge of the road).

Great photos--looks like a scenic area. We're towing my Elise (from Texas), so I've chickened out and decided to take the event orgarnizers' advice and go the long way around (up to I70 and then west and south) to Aspen Snowmass. This looks like a fun daytrip, though, in the Lotus.

Best time to drive Independence is early morning. By about 10am it starts to have some traffic, and in the afternoon it can get gawkers and slow campers. It is a definite must for LOG 27, though, even if you can't exercise your Lotus properly.

Another good drive is up Castle Creek (take the turnoff of 82 toward the Aspen hospital) to the Maroon Bells. Take your camera as you will want to get a photo of your car with the Maroon Bells in the background.

I'm looking forward to Independence Pass, though we'll probably be passing through around lunchtime so I expect it'll be a bit slow. It's going to be a fun weekend!
