ChaseCam now with full DATA

ChaseCam announces our new Data Module. Now you can pull in GPS, RPM, and more to the video. Automatically synced up. Create track maps, do analysis, show speed, and more. All automatically.

Solid State Digital Video Recording Systems and Cameras | ChaseCam

Turn your PDR into a Data Acquisition System.

Our customers asked, and here it is. ChaseCam introduces the DM10 Data Module. This plug and play solution will turn ANY PDR into a synchronized data and video acquisition system. That's right, with our new Data Module your EXISTING PDR can capture GPS data, accelerometer data, vehicle sensors, and even OBD2* data. Everything you need to do in-depth analysis, driver coaching, and extensive gauge overlays is recorded to the same memory card as your video, pre-synchronized and ready for immediate analysis.

A revolutionary tool, the ChaseCam Data Module combines 10Hz GPS tracking, onboard 3-axis accelerometer, direct vehicle sensor inputs, and OBD2 data and sends it to the PDR where it is recorded along with the ChaseCam video file.

Using DashWare, the video and data are both extracted from the card, already synched and ready for analysis and editing. Rather than simply burning static gauges to your video, ChaseCam allows you to keep a clean copy of the video AND use an unlimited amount of gauges, graphics, logos and text to create rich, custom data overlays.

DashWare's new analysis feature gives you the ability to compare data from lap to lap, session to session, and even car to car. With full graphing, adjustable scaling, and video tracking, you can watch the video and the data move together. DashWare allows you to compare multiple data sets from both ChaseCam data and others, side by side.

Data Module Specs:
10Hz GPS
3-axis accelerometer (in PDR)
Direct RPM input
Direct throttle position (or other 0-5v) input
OBD2 enabled (with optional cable)

Data Module Kit Includes:
DM10 Data Module
RJ45 connection to PDR
GPS antenna
Mounting hardware
DashWare 1.1 with Analysis

Options:
Mounting bracket to attach to PDR mount
OBD2 cable

You can order them now. We are shipping in two weeks.
We did create a limited production run of 100 modules, and it would not surprise me to see them sell out. But if they sell out soon, I will put in another production run order. I don't think anything is a long lead time item.

How many 5v inputs will it accept?

This module will accept a single 0-5V input and an RPM input as well as GPS of course.

We feel most of the market will simply use GPS + GF to derive most data. A smaller percentage will add RPM. And then an even smaller percentage will want throttle position or steering angle.

Is there a market that wants multiple sensor inputs? Certainly. But that is another module.

We wanted to limit the complexity, cost, and physical size of this module.

RPM and sensor input is on a terminal block (in the back in the pic above, you can't see it). You may note the AUX RJ-45 connector on the right side. We can pull in ECU or other Data Acq data in the RJ-45 as an RS-232 stream and then we mix it into our data and put all of the data in one file.

Is this data stored separately from the video? Or does the PDR merge it with the video file?

Right now we are merging the data stream right into the MPEG file. It is transparent otherwise.. you can play the MPEG file like normal and the size of the data is not significant.

But when you open the video file in our DashWare, we recognize that is contains data and strip it out and create a new data file on your local computer that you can then use for analysis or creating overlays (already synced).

Pretty cool stuff. We have been doing this data embedding for a while now, we created it to use with some data acq systems such as RLC.

Pic showing the back of the unit. This 4 position connector uses a simple screwdriver clamp to the wires for RPM and a separate sensor.

Again, full streaming data is brought in through the front RJ-45 jack.
