European road signs for your garage

Automobile magazine had a blurb on this site that sells authentic european road signs, for example autobahn signs...they say you can email them to request your favorite road sign...

No Speed Limit Sign (GERMANY)
For driving enthusiasts this is Love at First Sight! This sign indicates the cancellation of previous speed limits – in other words NO SPEED LIMIT. This sign is all about Freedom! Great for garages, offices or even bedrooms! Buy the Autobahn sign for a perfect combination.

2mm Aluminum Construction, Reflective White and Black Enamel Colors

(600mm – 24 inches) Official Stickers on Reverse

All signs include two plastic strips on the reverse. These strips (10mm – 0.375inch thick) include adhesive for easy installation to your wall. These strips also give the sign a slight extension from the wall for great appearance.

It's a great sign indeed, but not if you're in your typical small European rental car. Talk about a frustrating experience (and a wasted opportunity)...

So, where's the link?

Gee for a place called roundaboutsigns.com, you'd think they'd have the roundabout signs. You gotta love government installed skidpads.

You'd be surprised what it costs to manufacture sheetmetal in low volumes. You can't cut .080" thick aluminum (what those signs are) cleanly without the right equipment...you really need to be using a CNC laser to get a clean cut in that shape (can't nibble a circle cleanly on a turret press, and won't have the tooling to do a 24" circle stamped). Then paint the thing (they say enamel finish), do the artwork...I think it's a very reasonable price and doubt they're making much money on it (I'd guess their build cost is just under $100 in qty).

I agree, but the purpose for the sign doesn't justify the cost. How about a plasma torch on some steel and a vinyl sticker? SweetDaddy could hook me up with the vinyl....

Also, I bet I could source these from my manufacturing contacts in China for about $10 each. Gooooo Communism!

Agreed!!! It's overkill for garage art for most people. There's a market for stuff like that, but an even larger market for less expensive, imitation type versions of it (heck, even a *poster* image of the sign would sell).
