Feedback on Off-Site Garage Club Concept

Why have a garage at your house when you can have a dream garage away from the nagging wife and prying eyes of neighbors and nosy people you owe money(ex-wife)?

A place to hang out with other enthusiasts, have club meetings and work on your collection.

This has been popular across the country. Do you think it would fly in CA? Are there any that exist? What would that be worth to you per month, per year? Are you a possible customer?

Please provide candid feedback and let me know. This is not my idea, I just want to put the feelers out.

Thanks all,

Josh

A place to keep a race car? I would be in. Depends of course on the cost. If you can get me 400 sq feet of storage space and a lift..that would be awesome.

lol

Yeah. I get that about once a week now. Sold the Lotus in February. Sold the forum too. Bought the Noble a few months later when I debating what to get next. Right now, I have the Noble. We shall see if I keep it. It is pretty awesome.

I was just thinking this morning on the drive into work, to check into renting a larger garage space for me and employees of ChaseCam. Would be cool to be able to park rigs, trailers, cars. If I can get something for $1 sq ft or less.... maybe a 2000 sq ft place would work.

Thanks mopho, how is the Elan?

Randy, perhaps I should direct them to start a Web Forum instead...Nobles all around. Hahaha.

Give me a ballpark on what you would pay per month for a lift and one slot with full stocked tools and a clubhouse with dark wood...You can PM that to me if you would like

Ok, so $1 a sqft just for the space. Does that include a lift?

Would you be ok to share the space with another client or want just your own 2,000sqft?

At least 12 foot ceilings, a lift, climate control, 2 cars deep by 3 cars wide, with an "apartment like" room above, enough room to store tool cabinets, next to a track, with access to a mechanic for assistance if needed...

I've thought about designing and building something like that in this area......always wondered if there would be a market for it.

I know some SCCA racers were discussing starting a new shared garage in the OC.

Me, my minimum would be some storage (can be outside) for a trailer, so that would need about 10' wide by 30' deep, or two parking spaces. Then access to lift, with some organization so we can book time. Electricity and compressed air. AC/heat would be a plus.

Outside storage, lift access - $300
Inside storage, lift access - $400
Outside storage for trailer, inside storage for car. Lift acess - $500

If I had 2000sq feet to use at my disposal, I would pay $2000 a month. But my other option is just to move my business into a larger place with a large garage space. So that may be the option I end up with.

Cool. I love the idea and want to be involved in a project. It all comes down to business basics...will the demand fetch a price over the total cost of running the place. In CA its expensive to just have "storage." That same sqft could fetch much more if someone just wanted to store their "books and china." There would need to be some added value of a club house or lifestyle that can fetch a higher price than just sqft alone.

Although commercial space is notorious for being 2 years behind the residential trend...it might be time to buy.

Thinking out loud.

Randy, it sounds like you need more of a shop atmosphere rather than a "Garage Club."

There are plenty of those areas in Burbank actually. I was looking at multiple buildings in that set up. In fact...Jay Leno and Adam Carola(sp?) have theirs in Burbank(because of all the old aircraft vendors). In fact...one of the buildings was sharing a wall with Adam's garage. Part of our new Top Gear America team.

Are you doing some work with him? Tell him to call me back about my Elan. I was there a few weeks ago loitering to give them my business card with the car info.

You should sneak me in for a tour.

We are sponsoring his garage and putting video systems on the cars for the garage and NBC crews.

He has two Elans in there you know.
