Garage Door Openers - Taiddan & Auto

After an exhaustive search for Taiddan products I have to believe they are out of business. The idea was nice, flash the high beams and the garage door will open http://www.billswebspace.com/lotus.htm

Now that I believe it is impossible to find those anymore I found Autoswitch http://www.autoswitch.com/ and it looks like it would give the same results. Anyone have experience with this or any other installed garage door opener?

I finally took a strip of Velcro and positioned my opener in the left cubby where it will stay out of the way. .10 cent solution but does not have ANY coolness points.

I just emailed Ben (brittmo@xmission.com) not too long ago and they were still shipping these then, have you tried emailing him? They have never had a website and email is the only way I have ever known to purchase these.

I did look at the autoswitch website and it seems to be the same in principle and a little cheaper?

There really is no need to buy any modules. I have the same setup on my motorcycle, and was going to do it on my Elise, but never got around to it. On my motorcycle I have had it hooked up for 3 years, and it works without a problem.

You just need a relay, and a spare garage remote. I have the web address at home and will post it up when I get home.

Please post it. I never got any response from brittmo and am at a loss. I will make my own with some direction. I am sure we all could use a home brew version.....

The site that I printed the instructions is no longer active. If you want I can scan them on monday at work and then send you copies but here some simple text.

Here is an easier way to install the remote without using resistors and using a relay.

Get your extra remote, Open it and solder two wires on the terminals that open the garage door. And make it so they come out of the remote. Once you open the remote and look at the circuit board it is pretty obvious.

Get a Relay (http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?&WebPage_ID=3), you can also pick one up at radio shack.

When looking at the bottom of the relay it has Numbers on it:

85 - Attach to a Ground
86 - Tap into the High Beam Wire
87 - One of the leads from the opener
30 - The other lead from the opener

Basically what this does is when power is applied to the high beam, the relay completes the circuit by closing 87 & 30.

On my motorcycle I basically zip tied the remote together with the relay put it in a plastic bag connected the ground and high beam wire and have not had to change the battery in the remote since and I have had it in my bike for about 3 years now (I ride alot too). Just remember that anytime the high beams are activated the remote will send out a signal.

I can take some pics later in the weekend of my bike setup. I will be out of town until Saturday or Sunday, so if you have questions they will have to wait.

Thank you all for filling out this thread. I think we have enough to make this a reality for us all. It will be September before I will have a free weekend to try this out but when I do I will also post my results...
