Garage floor

Ok, so I'm thinking my next project is going to be fixing up the garage. Finsih the walls and ceiling, nice cabinets, and of course a sweet floor. Here's what I'm thinking:

The checkerboard is shorter on the Lotus side because a stub wall goes there with a refrigerator on the other side.

Not bad! Why not make the Lotus half Green and yellow checkers, though, and porsche half silver and black (or whatever their traditional colors are)? Also, the logos seem a little out of place on the floor, and are bound to get beaten up. Why not place them on the walls or back of the garage door?

Or red field tiles and black and white checks (for the checkered flag motif)...too cliched? I've been thinking about using a a floor epoxy base coat and do a giant Lotus and Fiat logo on each side in exterior grade paints with a clear coat.

The website I used to make the layout didn't have green tiles. That was my first though though.

We did a garage tour with the PCA last summer and somebody had a one car garage, black and white checkerboard with the Porsche crest front and center. It looked really sweet and that's where I got the idea. I already have 20" metal Lotus and Porsche logos for the wall. Not sure what I'd use for the floor, but still in the planning stages, so plenty of time to figure that out.

I don't have anywhere near the skills to pull that off, so I'll have to stick with stuff I can buy.

Check out the "Bald Head Cabinets" from San Diego. They did mine and they are beautiful! Ask Shinoo (Sector 111) about mine. I have a six car garage and my tiles are Gray and Blue, Checkered at the center and 2' blue tile border surrounding them.

Try 2' x 2' on the checkered pattern. It looks a little busy with 1' pattern. Is your garage only 16' wide? I have a two car at 19', and I thought mine was tight.....

Just my .02....

I'm gonna do my floors epoxy Lotus green and the walls Lotus yellow with a BIG Lotus logo somewhere in the middle.
For the logo I'm going to use a laptop and a portable projector to project it on the wall and trace it.
Ooh, I can't wait!

I second the idea of going with 2' x 2' squares - less busy. I dug up the old "just delivered" pic to show this pattern.

sigh...

Found their website, they do look great. Might have to look into them. Did you buy one of the pre-fab systems or custom order?

Haven't measured yet, it's probably wider than that. I was just playing around on the website and put in some numbers to start with. 1' x 1' or 2' x2' will depend on the total width of the garage and thus how wide the parking spaces will be.

I suggest you think long and hard about picking a floor color/pattern to match your current cars. Garages last a long time and cars can come and go. You may not be contemplating a change today, but your Lotus and Porsche could turn into a Noble and a Ferrari in the years ahead. Just a thought.

Awesome. Always wanted a super cool garage floor. I drool over the setups in the Griots catalog.

I figure silver black and red are generic enough to meet any future car needs. If I do the logos in the floor, worst case would be having to replace some tile arround their if I suddenly needed a Ferrari logo instead.

I ordered mine custom (Red/Yellow). I chose these colors since I own a Red Elise and Ferraris. I believe they use a pic or two of my set up on their web site. Great people to work with. Pre-fab systems are just as good as mine.
