Garage wall color

What is your garage wall color? Mine are unpainted and before I put down Racedeck I'm going to paint them. I've thought about white but I'm wondering if it's going to get dirty easy and show dirt. What have you done?

Mine's a pale yellow because that's what was there when I moved in. My prior garage was painted white.

What do you want your garage for? Me, I like it white so it's brighter in there for when I'm working on cars.

Paint it gloss white and it will stay cleaner, and make the entire garage more lit up with the lights on. Same thing with the floor - I'd go with a lighter color (although black and white checkered looks good).

I did not do this but a designer that I use has done her garage walls in a tall bead board with chair rail. Not that much $$, and she claims it looks great.

My old garage was white with a big blue racing stripe around the middle, outlined by a thin red stripe on either side. The fridge was covered with race decals inside and out, and some on the keg, an extra room with a desk and some seats was just wallpapered with car/chick posters. Floor was grey. The washer and dryer for the rags were that nasty bronze color. This garage is just tan inside, with a brownish reddish floor. Quite boring actually. White can get dirty depending one what you are doing, but will disribute the light better and be brighter. It's cheap and easy to repaint after a few years and clean it up. If you use an exterior paint you should be able to clean the walls pretty easy too. Are you doing much to get it dirty?

All white. Showing dirt and scrapes pales in comparison to how cheap and easy it is to touch up. I've painted a couple of spec Miatas in mine, so wall scrubbing and repainting is just part of the plan. Also, like Tim said, it's much brighter and easier to work in.

I painted mine a bluish white, with an eggshell gloss level. I've had plans to paint the molding a nice medium blue, but just haven't gotten around to that. I like the bright, airy feel that white walls and a white ceiling provides, especially when used with indirect lighting.

The wife wouldn't mind if I paint it bright white, because it would look nice, tidy, and clean. The fact that it would make it brighter w/ lights probably wouldn't register with her at all

I think she'd flip out if I put in a black/white checkered flooring. Well maybe not "flip out", but she'd definitely say something like, "Ohhh my gosshhhhh." and then roll her eyes at me, hehe.

I went with glossy white, latex exterior, got one coat on today, another tomorrow. In a couple of weeks, Racedeck.

My boss got racedeck for his whole garage. I went over to check it out. I didnt really like it. "CLop" "Clop" "Clop"... looks and sounds like plastic when you walk around on it.

No thanks.

Floor paint from Griots Garage and maybe a low profile carpet with a rubber edge to dress it up might be a better way to go.

Yeah, exactly...I did my 'raceshop' in it....I had never seen Racedeck in person. I thought it was going to be 'rubberier'. I might have gone a different route had I known. My own fault for not researching more......

Stands better to differences in temperature. It should last longer without cracking.

Haven't decided yet, I'm thinking freeflow in black/white but I keep playing with it. Unfortunately my garage floor is old enough that putting down floor paint or epoxy will be fairly difficult, I'm affraid that it'll keep peeling.

That's why you need to strip and prep it with acid. It's more work, but a better end result. I was really not impressed by race deck. Maybe a good idea for trade shows etc... but not in my garage. Check Griots Garage: http://www.griotsgarage.com/search.j...x=0&search.y=0
He's done all the research for you.

I installed RaceDeck when I got my Elise, and I've been hooked. Love the product.

You're correct about the "clop, clop, clop" aspect -- of the diamond-plate style. If you get the free-flow style you avoid this problem because you're not walking on "little plastic drum heads". An additional benefit of the free-flow style (at least in snowy climates) is that all the crud from the car drains below the tiles. Nice dry floor all the time!

I'm not affiliated with RaceDeck in any way. I just think it's the best/easiest way to spruce up the garage floor.
