The Perfectionist Garage

Looking for ideas to improve your garage? Want to organize your garage? Read on.....

Growing up the garage was my Dad's domain. It was a one and a half or two car detached garage with exposed studs, not alot of light and a workbench. I believe stuff was organized but other than my Dad's tools, not religiously so. I don't think it was even used to hold cars, only motorcycles, bicycles and junk.

Fast forward to the 21st century. Garage's are still typically the man's domain but the are much larger. They can usually hold three or more cars. Now they are seen as extensions of the house and are clean, organized and all the junk is hidden. As a designer of space I actually find garages a wonderful challenge. I have some customer's who want a home for everything and all the items need to be measured and locations planned.

Other's are just looking for a beautiful look with shelving for storage:

You can improve your garage yourself with stock or leftover cabinetry, hooks and some imagination or you can hire a professional and get a beautiful custom look that will accomplish what you need to accomplish.

Some ideas for improving your garage:

* LIGHT. If you are going to spend any amount of time in the garage it will need some good light. At the very least add task lighting where your workbench or garden bench will be.
* THINK VERTICALLY. Even if you don't want to make the entire garage hidden storage, just by using strategically placed hooks and shelving you can gain storage on your walls.

* THINK UP. If your ceiling is high enough make use of that wasted space between the garage door and the ceiling using wonderful wire racks. Some are built to hold up to 600 lbs. Great for storing those Holiday decorations and other items you don't frequently use.

If I wanted to improve my garage (if I HAD a garage)...I'd just call Todd (Moto44) and ask him to help me. That's one of the nicest garages I've ever seen. I'm guessing he has a cleaning lady just for it.

Get a air compressor from Sears. And all of their tools.

There.

Done.

The perfectionists garage. Yeah, I like the sound of that much better than what some here would call my garage. Tracy, it sounds as though you are going with the garage motif with your second bedroom, no?

Since this is a copy and pasted article from a commercial website, with a link to that website with content for sale, I'm moving this to the 'aftermarket suppliers' forum.

I wish I had a garage that could store 3 cars :P I can't even fit my bike and car in mine.

I am glad however that I have one.

But this guy does seem like a spammer.

Couldn't find a weblink with the particular cabinets, however, IKEA has some very modern kitchen cabinets that are somewhat reasonably priced. I'm considering going with the high gloss red cabinets with some brushed aluminum and frosted glass elements to break up all of the red.

FWIW, my interior designs skills are limited to garage concepts. I'm of no help whatsoever inside the house.

Check Lowes or Home Depot, they're starting to carry stuff like that. I bought some cabinets from Lowes that are marketed by Coleman. Exterior finish is pretty good (shades of gray), but I wasn't impressed by the quality, structure, and durability, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

For higher end stuff, Griot's Garage is a good place to start.

Yeah....RaceDeck floor, Craftsman tool chests, work bench, cabinets, table saw.....and of course, my famous 'wall of jars'.

It's still not finished, so I can only show you this corner. To the right is where the closet is (was). I removed the doors.

Try this site for garage floor finishing and cabinets:
http://www.premiergarage.com

or try this site. I've done my garage walls with Gladiator cabinets and wall systems. I even got their freezer-ator. Looking at Premier to do my floor.

We have a Freezerator in our garage... it is a great appliance. Perfect combination for a second refrigerator/freezer.
