Is it possible to turn a 2 car garage into a 3 car? It is when you have an Elise :)

This is something we came up with one day a while back because we have only a 2 car standard depth garage. I just came across these pictures and thought I would share.

How did you park that, Austin Powers style?

You need a 1:18 of your Elise, btw.

Try having a 67 mini and an Elise and see how many toys (cars and bikes) you can fit in a 3 car garage My pic is in the transatlantic thread

It's actually not as difficult as it looks. It mostly involves quite a bit of pushing and turning the wheel, we've managed to 'drive' it into position a couple of times.
Those are just our inexpensive garage display models that are on display. We have our expensive Looksmart and MR models in the house, however I do have to admit I do not have a model of an Elise, I'm holding out for a Sport Elise model.

That picture was taken about 6 months ago, the Gallardo was in LA at the time. I think I have a picture somewhere with the Gallardo and another with an LP640 Roadster, I think they might be on my other laptop in LA, I'll see if I can get them.

I keep four cars in a standard two-car garage. Of course this involves the use of a lift and it helps that the other cars besides the Elise are a MINI and two Classic Minis. No perpendicular parking required, but a lot of car shuffling is required to get at whichever car is on the lift since two are parked under the lift.

Get a set of wheel dollies, they work incredibly well and are super easy. I have a set of these:
Move-It-Dollies

But I would also like to try a set of the rachet style (less bulky non-hydraulic):
Move-It-Dollies-Ratchet-Style

Northern also sells a ratcheting style, but costs quite a bit more for a set of four:

Glad to see another classic mini owner on board

I have a set of four Go-Jaks and love them. Excellent for the currently-not-running project car, and can be used to get four cars in the three-car garage in case of hurricane.

If I use wheel dollies I can't get it close enough the wall on the passenger side. We've got it down to about 2-3 minutes to park and to drive it out is done in 1 move.

I'm just not that adept at parking, particularly in stressful situations. And at least one ETalker can attest to my lack of skills in the reverse gear (particularly at speed), so the the Go Jaks were the way to go for me.

Either way, it's pretty cool to have cars that are small enough to arrange creatively (MINI, Miata, and Elise for me).

i've been thinking about this (3 car in 2-car garage) way before even buying the lotus. part of it requires me to clean out my garage, which i'm doing-- mainly moving my wheel/tire sets (i have about 8 sets) into the basement to make room in the garage. instead of the lotus being sideways, i was thinking of putting an NB miata in the same position, the lotus then parked perpendicular to it, since it's short car. and then a full-size car (my E46) would park normally on the right side. i took measurements, looked up widgth/length stats on the web, made scaled down box drawings in photoshop, and theoretically it should work. only concern was that it would take a long time to get the miata into place, but it sounds like from your experience it shouldn't be too hard. the miata is hardly driven (1100 miles on the car that was bought new in 2003), so it is better off in the "closed in" position against the wall.

so funny to see someone actually executed what i've been thinking about and planning. i'm hopeful that it can be done!

i'll post a pix here when i'm done cleaning out the garage and position the cars...

In Boston for a while I was parking my Elise in a spot that I believe nobody has ever been able to park any other car before. It was one of those only-in-Boston streets that was about 100 feet long, had a median full of bushes and dead ended. Basically I managed to park the Elise in the bushes at the dead end. Totally illegal, but I suspect no parking officer ever managed to see my car. Wish I had a picture. This car really does fit in a dime slot.
