Roadtrip! SoCal to Alabama. 2000 miles! Tail of Dragon Deals Gap Meet
So... who is in? It is only 2000 miles each way. And before anyone complains about the distance, or having to spend a couple days driving your Elise or Exige, I am thinking of doing it in the Toniq R (assuming it gets built in time).
No top. No windshield. No heater. No AC. No Radio. What do we know? May 28th to June 1st is the event. I know I will be making a side trip to Tail of the Dragon. That seems to be about 230 miles northeast of Birmingham. Any ideas on a planned meet at TOTD? Before or after? Suggest after. ALL VERY PRELIMINARY. Business is such that things can get in the way. But at this time, there is no major roadrace conflict for me. Lime Rock is right before. OK... prelim planning now is that we stay at the lodge (Tapico?) on Monday night and then drive TOTD Tuesday

How long a trip are you planning? I've driven from Atlanta to SF in 3 days but I assume you're planning on going a lot slower than that.

I normally banzai these trips but I think longer than 8-9 hours in the Toniq might be pushing it and I would like to stop along the way for photo ops.

FYI, I've done Birmingham to San Diego after LOG 24 (2004) in our M100. After a mid morning start and a longish drive we stayed in Big Spring TX. The next day had and an easy drive got us to Carlsbad NM by about 5 PM. From there we meandered up to the Grand Canyon ... If you can take the time make the trip an event to remember. A month touring in a Lotus is trip of a lifetime.

I'd love to meet up with you guys in Deal's Gap (never been there). I'll keep an eye on your plans and try to figure a way to do it without using up 3 of my 5 free days a year I get at work. (10 hour drive to get there).

There are a whole bunch of us in NC and SC that would probably meet up at Deals Gap.

Ya, the gap would be fun on a weekday. The Tapico lodge was the home for USA7s 50th anniversary gathering for Se7ens. It is a nice place and the management is enthusiast friendly. They even have parking for trailers!
