See a genuine piece of Lotus / James Bond history!

Great news!!!

Bonham's auction house in London has just auctioned off one of the two white Lotus Esprits used in the James Bond film "The Spy Who Loved Me".

Lotus Limited Southeast member James Strickland has just purchased it and will be bringing the Esprit back to its permanent home in Atlanta.

Additionally James will be bringing this memorable Esprit to LOG 29 for all to see!

James Bond Esprit coming to Atlanta and to LOG!!!

One of our local guys just purchased the James Bond white Esprit, one of two driving cars in the movie from the Bonham's auction in London!

Press release here:
Lot Details

It is a very well documented and historic movie car. Who out there doesn't know it? The owner announced on our local LLSE message board that he will be bringing it to LOG next year along with his well documented Mario Andretti Esprit (given to Mario after winning Formula One)

Now for the coolest part. He actually drives the Andretti Esprit all over with us, on mountain runs in N. GA, to AL earlier this year etc and puts plenty of proper miles on it. So possibly we'll get to see the James Bond wailing around with us a bit too

There is something classic about that wedge design that I don't think the new Esprit captured.

Please let us know if there's an opportunity to see a bit of Catherine Tramell history.

While I do like the Peter Stevens redesign and the updates thereafter, the original cars simplicity was wonderful. It's just so beautiful.

I know of a person who is restoring one of the cars used to give to people associated with the movie (producers, etc). I cant remember how many there were.

^^^ one of the press releases with info about the car said there were only 2 driving cars in the movie, and 9 shells.
On of the interesting tid bits of info on the one coming to Atlanta. They said it was used in driving scenes of the movie (and which ones) and also as a camera car because they could not find another camera car that would keep up with the other Lotus. It also said then it went back to the factory, was converted back to a normal car and then sold. Then whoever bought it converted it back to as it appeared in the movie. lol.

Roxie might be a problem.

I wonder if this is the car driving out of the water.

UPDATE:

The car advertised by Bonhams as one of the two cars used in the movie has turned out to be NOT one of the two cars in the movie. The VIN was verified by Lotus UK and Roger Becker. So the original purchaser has backed out and this car will not be at LOG 29.
