Have the seller take the car to a Lotus dealer, have them print out the ECU information.

It will list standing starts (launches), highest RPM (5 highest), and some other minor stuff.
oh ok i figured it might be something like that. do you know of any turbo kit that is carb legal for the elise. it has plenty of power as is for me plus 150mph top end is plenty, but hell if i can get a turbo for it it would be pretty wicked. i know there is the s/c from the upper class models that is now made for the na cars but turbos are more efficient as they are free horse power.

There are no carb compliant turbo kits - in fact turbo kits for the Elise are not common. The only carb compliant supercharging solution for the Elise is the kit on offer from Lotus.

BTW- turbos do not provide their boost "free"

well yeah you pay $$ for it, but it's not like a supercharger that drains power to create power.

but thats a bummer i guess ill go for the sc 'til the turbo becomes carb legal.

also anyone with an 05+ street legal elise/exige for sale for 26k or less in southern california close to orange county or not let me know

Doubt ANY turbo kit is gonna be carb legal for the n/a Elise, and 06 Exige... ever.

As a matter of fact, the only turbo "kit" that really existed was from ForcedFed, and that looks like it's no-longer available.

Also, I hope you don't plan on going 150mph on the street.

I don't mean cash - turbochargers do drain power to create power - there is no such thing as a free lunch

They drain some power due to increased backpressure and increase power through greater fuel consumption. They also increase total costs due to increased stress on the engine and subsequent decrease in engine life etc.

What I was mostly trying to point out is that the additional power from a turbocharger is not free.

i mean i guess if you looked at it that way.never thought about the back pressure it cant be that much though.

Please do some research on S/C applications for the engine in the Elise. It is a Toyota motor.... but not quite that easy.

i did. i tried googling it and couldn't find it. i saw a few turbo kits but they did not say weather they where carb or not. i realise that the lotus is difficult as you have a very limited amount of space its not like a big block v8 where you can stick a mailbox out of. i rather not have to s/c if i can turbo but seeings how no one makes a carb legal kit its the only way.

Google does not have all the answers, have you tried this site or a Celica site for turbo information on the 2zz?

Why would you rather not have a supercharger? Out of curiousity, how old are you?

I'm sure ill get flamed by most here but I'm 19.

As the reason why I rather turbo as far as I've seen most cars with 4 cylinders use turbos plus the Eaton mp45 is pathetic really. I've dealt with sc before I owned a thunderbird supercoupe witch has a Eaton m90. I also believe that there is way more horsepower to be had with a turbo. Plus with a turbo you get more bang for the buck.

You dont need to play the horsepower game with an Elise. Its so light, it does not take much to really get it moving. My suggestion would be to get that new Elise of yours out to autocrosses, track days, etc to really understand the dynamics of the car. As your skill level increases, then look toward more horsepower.

The big thing about going with a supercharger is the linear power output. A turbo has nothing below 2500-3500 rpms (depending on the setup), but then comes on like a freight train. That is an awful tendency to have with a light weight mid engined sports car, especially if you mash the throttle mid corner at a track.

Have you driven the Elise for an extended period of time? My guess is probably not.

Yeah true an sc is always making power where as a turbo needs to be spooled. Yeah I guess I'm somewhat fixated on the horsepower game as I'm coming from a small block v8 where torque is everything. I haven't driven a lotus at all. I'm in the process of trying to obtain one.

There's a reason why he asked...

We won't flame you because you're 19.
We'll flame you because you act much younger than that.

If you don't ask questions you won't get any smarter

We'll only poke fun at you if you don't listen but expect us to listen to you - so far you are winning

In terms of power though Tristar Racing has it nailed. Get into an Elise and drive it - when you can utilise the power the standard car comes with then add more . I am still happy with my standard car and have had it for over three years!

that is a very true statement. as for the whining my other car is a wambulance

but your probably right considering im going from a car that has 17 pounds per hp vs a a car with 7.7 pounds per hp. but i would like to throw a bit of nos at it maybe a 50/75hp shot.
