...start naturally-aspirated, then move up to a nice TVS supercharger when you're ready: 330HP is plenty fast in these cars, and there's no good reason to put undue stress on the motor and powertrain unless you're planning a full rebuild...

...remember that in a lotus it's the driver, not the motor, that makes you fast...

true...

anyways round 2
went down to a dealership in costa mesa to look at a saffron yellow 05 elise. it had a chunk of the front clam missing not a big one just right below the mouth. we got down to 26.5k the engine was perfect as well as the clutch and tranny, which is the big thing.

so...the search continues.

Why does the search continue? The front clam was not perfect?

No offense, but after reading your posts about being 19, wanting to turbo and super charge before you have even driven an Elise, even bringing up nitrous; its my guess that slight front clam damage will be the least of that cars problems after you get done with it...

the search continues because i didnt drive it home . so until i have one in my hands the search is still on as far as im concerned.

as for the turbo and what not they are just ideas i like too look at the after market size of the car i intend to buy. a main reason why i decided to not get an esprit at all. i do things the right way though if i did turbo it it would have a whole engine rebuild, bored and forged internal. injectors and all that crap. i don't do it the ricer way and just slap things on.

The Elise does not have a huge after market following, mainly because it was done right in the first place. I am not accusing you of being a "ricer." What I am saying is that when you take into account your age, your want for more horsepower, and your lack of experience behind the wheel of a mid engined sports car, its a recipe for disaster. Well maybe not disaster, but a large insurance claim.

Speaking of insurance, have you even looked to see if you can get insurance on an Elise given your age?

i'm one of those guys that can have a car with a million horsepower but can keep a light foot. if i do anything dumb in my personal vehicle it directly affects my job. i mainly want the horsepower just to have per say. i guess i miss understood your direction when you said about adding power .

insurance is 1k a year with my good driver discount and what not.

out of curiosity i noticed that all the current us lotus models have the same top speed 150mph. does the lotus elise have some sort of speed govenor? is it the maximum speed the drive train can handle before self destruction? just curious as all i don't need to go any faster just curious.

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhh

Gearing limits the car to 165ish, car is drag limited to roughly 150mph though, depending on horsepower.

...actually, the car gears out at 155 sustained redline - it can theoretically burst up to 165 for two seconds, but unless you have a major power upgrade you're staring down an aero wall at those speeds...

ok. so basically it hits an rpm limiter at 165 or 155?

Exclamation 111 Platform Top Speed

...starting at about 120, drag rapidly becomes a major factor against this car's low power: 120 to 130 is noticably slow, 130 to 140 is very slow, 140 to 150 just creeps along, and 150-plus is debatable...

...the stock 2ZZ-GE has three different rev-limited redlines which vary according to operating condition: 6000 RPM cold, 8000 RPM warm, and 8500 RPM warm for wide-open-throttle bursts up to two seconds...

...at 8000 RPM gets 155 MPH in sixth with the stock gearbox, and 8500 RPM gets 165 MPH...in truth, you'll be exceptionally lucky to find a long enough straight to allow 190 horsepower's slow crawl up to 155 MPH, but even if the car were boosted to double that power, you'd be faced with a two-second limit at the higher 165 MPH burst redline...

...in short, sustained top speed is 155 MPH, but very few people have taken these cars much above 140 MPH...

Honestly, why does any of this matter?

Go drive an Elise, and you will understand why the cars top speed could be 110 mph and it still wouldnt matter.

Don't get an Elise.

Rather, go buy a Honda Civic, or an Acura Integra, then slap a CARB turbo kit on it.
