Buildup and First Drive

Buildup:
So a friend of mine (whom you may know from around here) is selling his Elise to buy a Noble. When I first caught wind of this, my heart skipped a beat as I've been in love with the idea of an Elise (a super-light, no frills, attractive, boy-toy) since a year or two before they were announced for US release. I brought myself back down to earth with the thought that he would likely be selling it for outside my budget. As it turns out, he WAS selling it inside my budget.. IF I sell my car and bike -- a mere side-note to the possibility of owning a real-life Lotus Elise.
After I talked with him about it for a bit he told me to check out lotustalk.com, so I did. For a week straight. You couldn't find me doing anything else but procrastinating on work by reading LotusTalk and watching Lotus videos.

Last night I got to test drive his Elise.
I sold my car today.
Anyone looking for an '06 Suzuki SV650s in the Bay Area?

First Drive:
After reading LotusTalk for a week straight, and reading/watching most every review I could find elsewhere, I had a pretty good sense of what it's like to drive the car for the first time: sex.
Let me just say that I normally don't watch move previews for a reason, they ruin the whole experience for me. So when everyone is saying to expect sex when I drive this thing, I'm expecting some crazy horse-show from TJ, MX. Now that I mention it, I think I'm a little glad I didn't get the TJ special... moving on.
Aside from expecting to come away with wet pants, I was also quite fearful of hurting the poor thing after reading about how sensitive the clam is, and the fiberglass, and the less-than-stellar visibility, and and and... Point being, I was nervous on two fronts: sex with a new thing and trying not to break an expensive toy.
After driving around for a few minutes I started to get a little comfortable in the car. And then a few more minutes. And then some more minutes. And then I was taking the current owner to places he wasn't sure where we were going. Then I had to go home What took probably an hour seemed like only a few minutes. Time gets passed @ 80 MPH when you're having fun.
The only thing was, I didn't seem like I was having /fun/. WTF? I'm supposed to have the Alu tub filled with sticky-icky by now, no?
We got back to the owners house and we talked for another 20 minutes or so outside of his garage about the purchase and selling my car and other things about his car, bla bla. I knew I wanted the car, but I just didn't have that crazy feeling of "OMG I WANT THIS INSIDE OF ME"
Then I had to get back in my car... As soon as I sat down, THAT'S when it hit me: being inside the Elise is like being inside the womb, everything is exactly where it should be, it knows exactly what you want to do, it goes exactly where you want to go, it gives you exactly what you need. It's been said before, and will be said again: telepathic, a melding of man and machine, sex with your partner (as opposed to sex with a TJ hooker). The Elise HAD to be purchased by me.
After talking with my wife about it, she made the observation that I was expecting a "wedding dress" reaction. Apparently girls get this when they find "the" dress for their wedding. They just somehow know that it's the perfect dress for their perfect day. Well, remember how I said that I don't watch movie previews and I was nervous? Yeah, it delayed my "wedding dress" reaction. I didn't get that Lotus Perma-Grin until I sat down in another car and realized that I was missing out on "the" car.

Anyways, that was my first sexperience driving an Elise. Hopefully you enjoyed it at least a fraction as much as I did

You have the perfect makings of a Lotus owner. If people look at the car and just don't get it, they never will. On the other hand, if each step forward is an adventure, you're helplessly hooked.

Post pictures when you buy.

id say it was just the opposite for me. as soon as i (awkwardly) sat down in an elise for the first time i thought i was going to have a heart attack i was so excited (seriously... i have a heart condition). then once i drove it it was immediately decided that i would have to purchase one... my mr2 spyder was listed for sale by the end of the day.

on a more embarrassing note... the clutch in the else was so much different than my car, i stalled my beamer leaving the dealership parking lot with all the salesmen watching

oh well, i still had a big smile on my face from the test drive
