Considering my first Lotus

Hi guys

I'm currently contemplating on what my next car is going to be. First thing is first, I'm not married and I don't have any kids. I've driven 2 years in an AP2 Honda S2000 equipped with Hayward 50mm ITBs, full roll cage, and Recaro SPG seats. So I'm a little partial to rough-riding machines that communicate with the driver.

Too bad, that didn't fly too well with my previous iteration of a Miata . Got ticketed, ref'd, sold the car, and bought my current car - a Mazda RX8 which eventually ended up like how it is today -303 whp from BNR Upgraded GT3071R Greddy Turbo Kit at 9 psi.

With a FI car on the track, things break. I'm getting VERY tired of replacing this part and that part.

Anyways, why am I here?

I have BIG respect to the cars carrying that distinct yellow badge. First thing is first, I'm a HUGE Mazda buff. I've had experience with RX7s, RX8x, Mazda Miatas, M2-1001 cars, and etc.

Lotus and Mazda worked very closely in the past with influences carrying over to the old Elan, roadsters, and etc.

I'm here because there is that special history with the Lotus brand! Such racing heritage! Grand Prix wins!

And mainly, I'm here because after ALL the money that I poured into my cars for the FI kits, tires, suspension (I only run Ohlins on all my cars), brakes, and etc............................................... .........

The little Exiges and Elises bury themselves in the horizon. I'm a huge performance junkie. Always have been. My best friend is an internet sales director at one of the largest BMW centers in America. He's been asking me repeatedly to get a M3.

Maybe I'm retarded. Maybe I just love that no frills attitude.

Anyways, I'm glad to say that I'll be selling my Mazdas (3 of them) and picking up my first Lotus.

See you guys around!

True, except please don't ask...

...can it be a daily driver?

...is it really that fragile?

...how much does it cost to maintain?

...how much is insurance?

I've had the following cars in my short driving career:

- 2001 Mustang GT 4.6L V8 (First car.....made me jealous of all the more nimble cars with a true rear end lol).

- 1984 Porsche 944 (My next car. Served me well and I got introduced to autocross thanks to the local PCA club in San Diego)

- 1987 Porsche 951 (944 Turbo for you non-Porschephiles. Much faster than my previous cars)

- 1989 Mazda RX7 GTU (Great little car with true race-car like handling)

- 1991 Mazda RX7 Turbo II (More power with great handling)

- 2004 Honda AP2 S2000 (Modded to hell and back)

- 1993 Mazda Miata (Also ITB'd, Modded to hell and back)

- 2005 Mazda RX8 (Street Car with some stuff )

I would say that liking cars that are fragile, unreliable, yet complete dreams to drive on the roads are somewhat of a prerequisite for me

Insurance? Depends on how old you are. Not as much as you think.

Enjoy your new Lotus!

Insurance on my RX8 is twice that of the lotus... not sure why, but I'm not complaining.

The lotus is heads and tails better than an 8, except at picking up groceries. Then the 8 wins. Here's to hoping the new rotary technology coming out of Mazda gets put in a new two seater

^^^

You put it best! I bought the RX8 because I wanted the back seats. The car still holds its own on the track and is a great handling car. Like I mentioned previously, I've been a huge Mazda buff since my first RX7 back in the days.

16x - the new 1.6L rotary engine being developed by Mazda seems very interesting. However, the fuel economy needs to get better and same with the power ratings. Otherwise, I'm all for the development of new rotary power!

Also, like I also mentioned, I'm selling my Miata (race car) and a few other toys to finally get into a Lotus Elise. I wanted an Exige, but couldn't justify the extra money especially when I consider myself a mod junkie anyways.

First things first.... WELCOME!! and don't get married and don't have kids or the car has to go. I also come from an custom AP1 so I'm very familiar with the S. Now, it takes a very special driver to love the Elise (The exige is an Elise on dope) if you have any doubt buy your self a 2009 CR. BTW My 9K was bigger than you 8K and you know how us men love to brag about size......WELCOME!!

Oh.....but my F22C engine didn't stop spinning at 8k

And if you want to get nitpicky.....we did have more liters than you. So that "us men" statement might work against you.

I definitely respect the different driving characteristics of each machine. But just to give you Lotus boys a good feeling.......everyone on S2KI - Honda S2000 Community praises the Lotus. They believe respect is due where it's due.

Congrats and welcome! Give us some specs man, what did you end up with!

Prepare for the funny looks and smiles the car brings both to your face and others around you.
