Hello From A New Guy
Hello everyone!
I am considering buying a used Elise sometime in the next year or so and would like to learn as much as possible before taking the plunge. I currently own a 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder and it seems that moving into an Elise would be a natural progression for me. Luckily, I have a company vehicle I use for work so I will not need to use the car as a daily driver. I have only put about 1500 miles a year on the MR2 since purchasing it 2 years ago. One of the problems I have is that I do not have a garage to store the car in. I live in northwestern NJ in the mountains - and we do get a substantial amount of snow. Would it be practical to just use a high-quality car cover to protect an Elise in the winter? Well - that's pretty much it for now - any insight into the Elise will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance - Chris |

The MR2 is a lot of fun to drive. I removed all of the Toyota badges from it so a lot of people aren't sure what it is. I have had parking attendants write down "Lotus" at least twice so far. Guess maybe it's time I bought an actual Lotus.
Maybe global warming will kick in and I won't have to worry about snow after all! |

In that environment a Weathershield HD cover would be preferred.
Weathershield HD Go to the "Detailed Info" tab for comparisons Michael Quote:

sounds familiar... see my signature ![]() i would highly recommend that you not get an elise if you dont have a place to store it (garage all year round). it is a great car and is a logical next step after the spyder, but if you dont have a place to store the lotus, stick with the mr2 and do a 2ZZ swap... just my opinion... but what do i know ![]()

Some people keep their car out in the snow. Personally I wouldn't, but I'm sure if you get a cover and don't let snow build up on it, start it up and drive it at least once a week, (when the roads aren't nasty and salty or in your driveway) you should be fine. The snow in NJ isn't that bad, not like in upstate NY where when it snow once, it stays till spring.
