What sort of tax is that? The only thing I could find online was that "cars up to 2000cc are about 1,000 THB." Was this some kind of peculiar importing tax for rare foreign cars or something?

In any event, congrats! Enjoy it!

$200,000 for a Lotus . I guess that puts an end to the debate whether the Lotus is a true "Exotic Car".

Oh, by the way, Welcome You'll find the Exige to worth every penny spend. Well, for us Americans anyway

Ha Ha....

Import car in Thailand, if not AFTA member(asiean free trade) have to pay very high Tax.
I don't know what kind of job but I see many people drive Ferrari and Lumboghini.
I guess ............Corraption?

But...In Thailand.
If you have 1000 us dollars, you can enjoy eating traveling shopping for 1 month.
Thailand is a paradise. Everything is very cheap except car.

You can check this link from Thailand.
MunMaak
Munmaak Graham City to Coast rally 2010 start and rally photos | BKK Photography
Thailand is very small country but a lot of supercar.

You can see many Lumboghini and Ferrari on road but you will see only one Exige S240.
Because Only one S240 in Thailand and it is mine.

My wife said "who buy Exige like you, he is not only rich man but he also crazy and stupid too so you are only one who buy because no one like you".

Arrrr....

May I suggest a solution to your problem? Buy your next exotic car in the USA and keep it in my house. When you want to drive it just fly out here. We can take it to the tracks and I'll take very good care of it while you are not here. You'll save tons of money and get a vacation out of it too.

Maybe you can also keep an "exotic woman" in my house and come visit once in a while and I'll also take good care of her while you are not here.
