Talking Just saying Hi

Hi all,

Have been a member on Pistonheads and SELOC for a little while now. I have a 2001 K-Series Elise which underwent a PTP conversion 2 years ago. Not happy with that I've recently rebuilt the engine and am waiting to get it rolling roaded in a few weeks.

Current spec is:

Modified Vulcan Head
Backcut Exhaust Valves
BP285H Piper Cams (110/95)thou @TDC
42mm DTH Throttle Bodies
Omega Pistons
Ultra lightweight flywheel
New VHPD crank
VHPD conrods
ARP bolts
Fully balanced and matched
82C Stat
Piper 4-2-1 Flexi
Janspeed Sport
Deep Alloy Radiator

Here is a list of thing done in the last couple of months (in sub zero temperatures....brrrrrr)

List of things done:

Removed rear clam

Dismantled and cleaned all engine parts.

Backcut the exhaust valves.

Reground values and lapped in.

Tidied up areas around the value seats.

Opened the exhaust port a little

Fitted new uprated valve springs and checked install height.

Linished my piper 421 flange flat so it actually seals against the head

Obtained new VHPD crank, rods (matched) plus Omega pistons (thanks to the SWLC) and had then balanced as an assembly (Clutchcover-Flywheel-Crank-Pulley)

Fitted new oilpump

Reassembled engine

Timed cams

Fitted Mocal oil-water cooler.

Repaired alternator loom after heat damage.

Cleaned engine bay + pipework.

Cleaned rear shocks and coils.

Cleaned and painted shock absorber brackets and repainted.

Cleaned and painted both driveshafts

Fitted new rear N/S wheelbearing

Cleaned and painted engine mounts

Fitted uprated toelinks (Eliseparts jobby)

Fitted new 82C stat

Made my own throttle linkage for the throttlebodies...They are 1000000x better now as the linkage is now on the top of the bodies. No more hitting the waterpipes, no more bend brackets etc. Plus I haven't had to mutilate the throttlecable end to get it to fit

Dismantled the throttlebodies - cleaned, repainted and reassembled.

Repaired engine bay vent.

Fitted cool air ducting from both vents to throttle bodies.

Modified boot so airfilter doesn't rub.

Repaired silencer heat shielding.

Painted manifold heat shield.

Cleaned and painted both rear calipers.

Reassembled exhaust system using high temperature silicone (so the piper 421 actually seals to the cat for once).

Lessons learnt:

Get throttle bodies....consider them an investment..

..then get proper cams..

..then do the cam timing yourself...check and recheck....

lol. It was about -3C whilst doing the rebuild. Used a 500W floodlight to heat my tools and hands during the fun and games.

It's been -6C the last few nights and the poor Elise is covered in salt at the moment. It's going to get a good washing when the temperature rises!

Hi Chapster. Have yet to do any trackdays as my car is usually in many pieces

Hopefully this should be the last 'large' thing I do to it so now I can actually start enjoying !!
