Probably a dumb question

I keep seeing the acronym HPDE with regards to the topic of track time. What does this stand for?

Umm I think it's usually high performance drive event...

On related note, I'm not sure why people dont put more relevant info in the header than "dumb question"or "new here", I guess we're all supposed to click on it to see just how dumb or how new?

DE of course is just drive event. Leave the performance at home

The header alone made my question twice as dumb. In the future I'll make the title more specific to the topic. For now I'll just hang my head in shame and avoid social gatherings.
Thanks for the information.

Not need to go away in shame...

For what it's worth, I never new exactly what HPDE meant - I knew that it was track time (and learning to drive on the track), but the actual definition of the acronym?

you guys are all wrong.

HPDE stands for Google.

(sorry, couldn't resist. )

On a more helpful note...it's an instructor-led day or multi-day event meant to enhance your driving and awareness skills, and it's immense fun (i've only just started). More often than not, it's what people refer to when speaking of "the track".

HPDE - as mentioned previously - High Performance Drivers Education - is a euphamism for track day. With Insurance issues and lawyers everywhere track days are now referred to as HPDE (education is the key word here) to make it all seem socially responsible and less dangerous. It is the only way to have a track event and keep costs under control. My understanding is that there actually is education going on so I think it is an accurate label and the education part is surely a good thing.

Funny how the lawyers have taken over everything... even common sense.

I'll go along with the drivers "education" if you guys will. Let's remember you're going to an EVENT. Hi performance driver's education could take place on iRacing right? or in a classroom. But that's not what you're paying for.

I realize this isnt an important disctinction - education vs. event - but honestly, theyre holding an event. At which your drive! :-)

...actually, a proper HPDE should include off-track instruction...
