What does "The ECU was remapped" mean?

Does it mean that all the old EU entries were wiped out? In that case, does it nullify one's ability to request a ECU dump and understand how the engine was treated?

remapping or reflashing is when the ecu is overwritten with a new program, sometimes when this happens the ecu is reset so it looses all the recorded data and starts from afresh.

basically the difference between doing a fresh install of windows vs an upgrade !

nope sorry, its gone for ever, it gets rewritten/reformatted when the ecu detects its been reset/reflashed or corrupted and instantly starts to record new data.

I wouldn't say its a deal breaker for me, since its not uncommon for them to be updated by the dealer, but if you had other reasons to suspect a car had been abused it'd be something to think about

lotus usa sometimes has the history of the car on record if you check with them and the vin, especially for the first service.

okay - In the specific case I noticed, Dealer had the car supercharged.
What other instances would typically cause a remap, can you think of any?
Also, If I am buying from a dealer who also happens to have remapped it, I am kind of at the dealer's mercy for inspection of the car and such...

if an aftermarket supercharger then the remapping is referring to the new SC map, if its one of mine then the data logger ought to still work, if it doesn't, i'd certainly like to know about it


but yeah you're basically in the hands of the dealer with a car with a 3rd party SC, at least for any parts that can be blamed on it, ie if the roof came off the sc couldn't have cause it, so it ought to be warrantied, it'll depend on whats left of the factory warranty, and how the dealer is positioning it.


the other reason is that lotus issues updates for the cars, so far its been two or three for the lifetime of the car, thats the other reason, the one thats not to worry about.

One more question:
If we pull a dump, does it say if the ECU was remapped? Is there like a date field included in the logs or does it just give rpms and other data? If that is the case, then we should be able to see the start date of the characteristics or some such thing?
What info does the ECU dump provide anyways?

when its reflashed its usually reset to 0, then immediately starts to pickup max rpms, max kmh, fault codes, engine running time, and standing starts.

i tag all my flashes so they're easily identified with a scantool

Thanks - Guess means that it depends on whether or not the dealership tags for reflashes or not?
