so glad to see in the photo that he walked away.............. amazing, only because of his equipment. I hope you guys running those 4 point harness and POS holes/grommets cut through your stock Elise seats get the hint. buy the right stuff BEFORE you need it. I am betting he had a H+N restraint of somekind that was properly utilized. that must have been really scary for that guy.

Holy crap that's one of the ugliest wrecks I've ever seen from SCCA - I remember that car vividly as Mitch Piper put in the cage in that car just before he did mine. The quality of his cage designs and welds is probably some of the best I've ever seen (and played a part in allowing me to walk away from my accident early last year). Good to hear the driver walked away as well...

Same spot the DBR9 went for a spin at ALMS - he managed to stay right-side-up though (and back on track within 3 hours). IIRC, the Aston Martin had a tire failure under load and went for a little (180 foot) flight..

That was off of turn 7 at the end of the long back straight. My Exige saw 125mph at the end of that, but I would bail out of throttle very early for that exact turn (Yes, I was chicken). Maybe Tickle can tell you what a real Lotus driver runs there. My guess: the Z driver overcooked it into turn seven and ran wide. In an attempt to set up for madness (turn 8), he hit his brakes. He's carrying too much speed and that stretch of pavement leans to the outside of the turn (towards the drop off that leads to the sand trap he cartwheeled through). The braking/sudden deceleration is what started the roll. Of course, I'm just playing armchair navigator.
Glad our fellow driver walked away. -Brad

I suspect the Racetech seat also played a big part in protecting the driver. HANS primarily reduces forward and backward motion of the head; the Racetech prevents lateral movement of the head and shoulders which is equally important in preventing a broken neck.
