If the OE seat is DIY slotted for the shoulder belts and sub belts so a 6-point harness can be installed, why is that a bad thing? Sure, the OE seat doesn't offer the protection of a seat with wings to reduce side-to-side head motion, and that is no small thing, but many race seats which are slotted from the factory don't have the wings. Why is an OE Elise seat w/DIY slots less safe than a slotted from the factory but no wings race seat?

for the same reason harness manufactures say to NEVER cut holes in a seat to make a pass through for a harness. the HARNESS manufacturers are saying this, not the seat manufacturers(think about that).

bottom line is its not my arse in the seat so it doesnt effect me. the lotus seat cut with slots is so far, and thankfully untested, like a seat that has been designed for harnesses and to withsatnd a large impact.

its your body, its your ~$800 for a proper seat, and if you want to be the first potential crash test dummy, let us know how it goes after the test, maybe tell the supplier of these items as well that the items worked as they should or not. I think everyone would like to know, but someone needs to actually test them out.

i know how fragile my body is, and after being in a few crashes in my race cars on the track, there is a reason i wont ever get into a car w/o my HANS, and every other TESTED safety device thats available.

just because a small niche market supplier is offering a $25 part to mod you not initially designed for harness seat into one that now "looks" like it will work, does not mean that its a tested and safe product.

I can always replace $ i spend on a car part, I cannot so easily replace my body.
