Ferrari shall not take part in the 2010 FIA Formula One

Ferrari shall not take part in the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship until the conditions of its entry are satisfied

Ferrari shall not take part in the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship until the conditions of its entry are satisfied

Maranello, 12th June 2009 - Following publication of the list of entries for the 2010 Formula One World Championship, which includes Ferrari as an unconditional entrant, Ferrari wishes to state the following:

• Ferrari submitted on 29 May 2009 an entry to the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship which is subject to certain conditions. As of today, these conditions have not been met;

• notwithstanding this and despite Ferrari's previous written notice to the FIA not to do so, the FIA has included Ferrari as a unconditional participant in next year's Formula One World Championship. For the avoidance of any doubt, Ferrari reaffirms that it shall not take part in the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship under the regulations adopted by the FIA in violation of Ferrari's rights under a written agreement with the FIA.

question:
who needs who more?
Does the FIA need the current teams for next season, or the current teams need FIA for next season.

to me it seems like a dictatorship who is telling the citizens that they rule to do something over the line, and then all the citizens revolt. after a sucssesful revolution, the dictator usually ends up gone from the country, but the country continues under new rulership.

the way I see it is that if all the teams stick together, adios bernie and max.

with no bernie or max.... there would be no need for budget caps! there is no cap on their take from the series, and they take enough to run the entire series under the wost case caps...

Why do we watch F1?

1) To see the best cars and drivers competing at their limits?

2) To see what Bernie and Max think is profitable entertainment?

Ferrari sells a hell of a lot of hats, t-shirts and other branded products largely as a result of its participation in F1 in addition to the effect it has on promoting its cars. No way is it going to risk this.

It's brinksmanship. Both parties know there will be a compromise. Much of Ferrari's mystique derives from their racing heritage and participation; and F1 wouldn't be the same without Ferrari - so they'll come to some agreement sooner or later.

F1 needs Ferrari more. They'd sell a lot of hats and t-shirts at sports car races, too, if a factory team participated.

I think I'll start a drinking game during the coverage of Le Mans this weekend. A swig of chianti every time I spot Luca di Montezemolo.

During the last Rolex Series broadcast from the Glen it was said Ferrari is looking into producing an engine for that series. For what it is worth.

Yes, Ferrari needs to be racing, but does it have to be F1? Not really. They could get some good publicity by racing in some of the many other racing series out there...German Touring Cars, 24 hours of LeMans, AMLS, this alone might give them enough to maintain that racing image. Stay out of F1 for a few years, let things stabilize, then get back in to it someday.

There are enough newbies wanting to get into F1 that the could make a series without the FOTA crowd, but who would go to watch it? People aren't going to spend hundreds of dollars for tickets to see ProDrive or Campos race, nobody knows who they are.

There is no F1 without Ferrari.

Ferrari knows it, and Bernie knows it.

Unfortunately; Bernies ego may not know it.

If Ferrari had the balls they could have a brand new premier racing series up and running by 2011 - called FZero?
Mclaren would definitely jump too if it was definite.
Ferrari would have infinite Kudos with car lovers everywhere?
Who knows in 10 years time we could be watching gas turbine cars with 2000hp and computer controlled aerodynamics passing each other upside down in tunnels.

F1 is Bernie, he owns it. Hope his business instincts are stronger than his ego.

Hmm, haven't watched it lately, I take it? In a spec series, 'anyone' can win. That's not F1. Some teams are dominating, others are sucking bigtime. Far from being a spec series. Even different cars powered by the same engine have vastly different performance (Brawn vs. McLaren).
