It'll be interesting to see how they do, after SO many years of not being in racing.

Ok what if the Bruno Senna went to Lotus F1? Senna Lotus Cosworth Are You Kidding Me! It looked like Lotus was on its last legs not long ago! There is real $ behind this-the freaking planets have aligned! In total what is happening at Lotus is latterly unbelievable!!! I give thanks to the racing gods, baby Jesus, all of these folks!

I'm mostly with Kyle on this - perhaps it's being a Lotus follower since 1951 that colours my view.
I cannot for one minute imagine that Colin Chapman would see anything wonderful in today's F1 parody.
As for keeping the type numbers concurrent with the road cars, well Team Lotus and Lotus Cars didn't always bother about that too much! For example, my Europa is a Type 74, but so were Formula 2 cars (also known as Texaco Stars), but I agree, it would be nice.

The root of this situation is that Lotus Cars didn't buy the Team Lotus name rights back when the team folded. What idiot with no foresight was running the show when that happened ?! I can't see the forest for the trees in all the announcements, but if Proton or the Malaysian Government (who own Proton) have re-secured those rights, then that's a step in the right direction. If Proton want to make a name for themselves, they should be using Lotus as their halo brand, and the Lotus F1 team as a big marketing vehicle.

I'm very very curious to hear the new Lotus CEO's comments on these developments.

I agree that Colin Chapman is long gone (unless he's secretly living in Malaysia instead of Brasil as was previously claimed ) and we'll never see those days again. The whole circus has moved on. The days of the privateer in F1 are over. Ironically, it's all Colin's fault for putting ads on the cars in the first place and making this a business rather than a sport.

I for one will be glad to cheer for the team, especially since the team I've been cheering for (BMW) is now gone and since it looks like the Montreal Grand Prix is back on the calendar so I can cheer in person.

Ok so we know they'll use the Team Lotus name. Does that mean the Lotus logo will be on the car also?

Driver lineup

[baseless rumor]I heard they are going to pull David Coulthard out of retirement and team him up with Senna's nephew.[/baseless rumor]

But if I were a betting man, I'd say Yoong.

I believe it was sold at a bankrupcy type thing run by the magistrate. Lotus cars was not in that great of shape at the time as i recall.

Here is something I indirectly ran across while searching for something else. I have never seen this before and wonder if it ties into the F1 announcement.

Either way, it's the coolest Lotus cap I have ever seen. It is advertised as

Original LOTUS cap, official merchandise sold by Proton

NIGEL MANSEL WILL DRIVE!!! They should go get Rubens...I've been reading a lot about how he's really great at setup.....I feel like they need, you know, a test driver and then a good solid veteran and then a young bad ass.

You just need to look at Red Bull to see how to get going in a relatively short amount of time. Although I'm not sure of the origins of the Red Bull team to be honest...

Keep goals realistic so nobody thinks that it's failing. I'd say to score a point or 2 would be a good goal, then podiums and wins...then in year 3 or 4..perhaps challenge. All that hinges on rules.

Like someone said, it's gonna be tough with Gascoyne, he sounds like a real dick when I read about him...talent, but a dick. Perhaps this new opportunity after a year out...perhaps he will have pause this time around.

3 years ago all laughed at the comment that it would be nice to see Lotus on the grid. I hope all are not laughing again in a year or so. Lotus F1

Agree that the most that can be hoped for is a point or two (and that's unlikely.) Hope the team will just survive for a couple of seasons. I still remember the end of days for the real Team Lotus. Evrything turned to a sad joke after Colin died. I suspect the new Lotus will be a Spyker/ Minardi clone but one can only hope. Even Minardi had a good sized fan base...Dave

While a Proton link for the F1 team seems obvious considering the Malaysian links, none of the newspaper coverage has mentioned any Proton involvement. If they were part of the project would they not make sure their name was featured prominently?

The cars are actually to be designed/built in the factory that previously built Bentley Le Mans cars, Audi Le Mans cars, Toyota racing sports cars and Toyota racing saloons - no connection to Lotus (or Proton) at all, but a good racing pedigree.
