What a Race!

Some of you may have seen it on Speed, but what a race, especially Grand Finale!

Yes, it was a great race! I was at the Corkscrew shooting pics for a website and saw Magnussen on Bergmeister's tail all the way down to T9. Too bad i missed the ending at the Finish line in real time, but i got home on Sun early enough to catch the last 10min delay-broadcasted on SpeedTV.

Here are some large pics from mostly the ALMS race:

That was great. Can't say I blame Bergmeister. He didn't initiate the contact.

Speed says both are on probation but no change to the finish order.

Wow that was awesome.

Reminds me of my last kart race. I got put into the tire wall on the last lap.

Passing in the pit exit lane? That's potentially very dangerous.

Edit: I wrote that (above) 1/2 way through the clip, now that I see the end, I'm stunned! Did they take away the victory from him? That's deadly.

Corvette was much faster. It must be very frustraiting to be blocked time after time. at the end Magnussen commited to pass Bergmeister no matter what and was driven to the wall. I wonder what happened between the two (and their crews)after the race?

I think it was 2 years ago the Flying Lizard team suffered the same fate as the Corvette today at the hands of a Ferrari - seems they learned to play rough onthat day.

What a race - wow

Thanks for the clip

During the awards ceremony, Magnussen did not appear on the podium- there were varying opinions on why; e.g. he was still be examined by medical or there were still heated feelings.

Also, Lou Gigliotti mentioned in the above post that Laguna Seca is "owned by the government", well its actually part of the Monterey county park system now and run by the non-profit SCRAMP (Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula). However, it was originally built by local businesses and individuals but deeded to the county.

I was watching the race and immediately thought that both Jan and Jorg should have been disqualified for their last lap antics. Apparently I am in the minority. This is sports car racing, not NASCAR. This intentional contact crap doesn't fly at the amateur level and it shouldn't fly at the pro level.

Where did you see the Porsche try and make intentional contact?

The only intentional contact was by the Corvette.

The Porsche didn't knock him out - it was karma

OR ... how about ...

What goes around comes around

What? Sure, the vette bumped a bit first... but don't say the porsche didn't knock him out. The porsche clearly doesn't want the vette to get past on the inside and eases the vette right into the inside wall to make sure of it.
