Why is Brawn GP so dominant in F1?

4 races won....

Is it the cars? diffuser design?
Drivers?

In the Spain GP, Massa and Hamilton seemed crippled.

while everyone else was busy trying to get point last year - brawn used the season to develope the new car/regulations and gave up on that season.

That may be true also but remember, he was successful with Schumacher too....and he didn't give a whole season away for that. I think I'll ask him for some downforce advice for my Lotus.

The Brawn seems to have a different all around aero design... besides the diffuser, the side pods and radiator intakes look different than the other cars...

Extra preparation time due to Honda giving up on the 2008 season half way through, lots of experience, and a bit of luck.

I know Ferrari has been having problems with their cars, but would you say that Button and Barrichello are better drivers than Hamilton or Massa?

no,
I would say that the Braun cars are the best package out there(right now), and that the Braun team has their $hit together.

Ferrari has made some really foolish tactical errors in the qualifying sessions, and even last race with massas' fueling.

to me, i think all the drivers are really good, its the cars/teams that make the difference. I know when my DB-1 was first made in 1984, if you were not in that car, you were not going to win in FF.

the car can make average drivers really good, and can also make really good drivers, not very competitive if the car is "bad".

Braun is winning for a reason............Mr. Braun

the one guy who impresses me the most is Vettel. he seems to be fast in whatever car/team he is with so far.

No way. I think you can tell how much the car is the difference when the team puts both drivers at the top of qualifying and the podium. While it's about the driver when someone like Alonso finishes so far ahead of his team mate.

Pretty simple - their car is better than everyone elses. Driver comparisons are really only meaningful on a team level, and even then, with different race strategies, it doesn't mean much. I think you could put any of the current drivers in the Brawn and they could win races. Not only does the Brawn have superior aero, but it is also very easy on the tires (as evidenced by the graining you could see on almost every other car last weekend). It also doesn't hurt that Ferrari has no clue about race/quali strategy.

The exciting thing is that next year, with the refueling ban, qualifying will return to low fuel bonzai attempts with everyone running comparable fuel levels. Then, we'll be able to compare drivers within the team!

Brawn on the team and the fact that Honda's been developing this car for the last 2+ years.

Bingo. I heard one of the F1 commentators mention this. Because of the rule changes that state you can no longer do testing while whie you're racing meaning, Ferrari or whomever, cannot go to their HQ and do testing that will assist for that same season, teams are learning on the fly while Brawn had most if not all of last year to perfect their aero dynamics and so forth. Teams like Mclaren and BMW took a step backwards when they were expected to improve for '09 but the team that is really suffering is Ferrari. It seems that not only do they have an inferior car but their staff constantly make mistakes....stupid mistakes which cost them, points and positions

There are still 12 races to go but unless Brawn fails to make podium in those remaining races, you might as well give them the constructors championship and announce Jenson Button as the new champ. Next year however, I expect the BMW, McLaren, Ferrari and maybe Renault to be back in form.

Now I'm contradicting myself but how do you explain Red Bull whom does not use the KERS nor do they have the rear diffuser like Brawn ....I'm liking this '09 season of F1

It's been a great season so far. I love to see Ferrari suffer.

I just wish it still came to North America.

I thought that Canada was in the brinks of getting a GP soon.

But yea why don't we have an F1 event in the States?

Simply put, Bernie wants too much money and as long as there are dictators, despots, and royal families willing to shell out the cash, the F1 circus won't be coming back.

Agreed -

However, if (as reported) there are two new US teams for next year F1 may be forced back to North America. I'd be happy just to get Canada back.

I saw three USGPs at Indy. The track is squirrelly but its just so wicked to see and hear a proper race car in person.

Well with two "North American" Teams slated to join F1 in the next few years we might see a street course here. Las Vegas or New York.

Things are changing...it could happen.
