Wow, how did I miss this thread!!! Great news!!!! As for Loeb, he was dominant from the moment he started. Even when Citroen wasn't dumping tons of money into it. You could always see how frustrated Marcus, Petter, etc. were during interviews because they knew they were getting their asses handed to them and they couldn't do anything about it. Nice person or not he is one of the best WRC drivers ever to live.

Bummer is I heard Subies are pulling out and Mitsubishi has pulled out awhile ago. This is very diminishes it some to me. STI vs Evo is like Boston vs NY of rally cars. I will still watch it though.

Yeah, since it was such a pain to find the races and watch them the past year or two I haven't been following it much but when I found out they were pulling out I was shocked. Will everyone be in a Ford or Citroen??? Doesn't seem like any other car companies are left. Still better than NASCAR though.

sorry NASCAR fans.
Totally agree!

Citroen was dumping tons of money from the moment they started. They had already spent a year and a half developing the car, then did a season (2002) where they only competed about half the events to further develop the car before competing in the complete championship. When they showed up, many in the sport were talking about how they had an advantage.
Loeb mostly dominated on Tarmac in the beginning, not so much on gravel but incidentally, 2002 was the about the time when the technology really started kicking in and cars were getting a lot more grip on loose surfaces, which IMO played right into Loeb's tarmac expertise. Watching the sport now, they hardly slide the cars anymore and take more of a racing line, even on gravel

He may be statistically one of the best drivers, but unlike many other drivers, he has never been on any other teams. So until he changes teams, we will never know if he is truly that great by being versatile or it is the combination of him, the car and the team.

Look at what happened to Hamilton in F1, he was dominant and then a sudden change of the rules/engineering and he is a non issue anymore.

Subaru pulled out of the sport over 8 months ago

Just a friendly reminder that the Rally Ireland coverage is tonight (Sunday Oct. 4th) at 8pm EST on Discovery HD Theatre (at least that's where it's at on Comcast).
