The "sea of cones" thing is a novice issue and you get good at reading the cones and picking out the important ones. Many times you can see 25 cones and only one matters.

Before I moved to CA I had never been given a "time slip" or heard of lining a course with chalk. Keeping things simple is usually the best approach. Make an easy to follow course and then just put the cones in places where its visually obvious to the driver of a car and most things just work out.

Jon, What makes the video hard to follow is the field of view. There are many times I am driving by looking out the side windows. For example the turnaround into the second slalom I was looking at the first slalom cone before I started the 180 degree turn into it.

Jon,
Just come to an event. You'll have a blast I promise. Enigma makes great courses (well except for that crazy spiral cross over course in the rain last year) and the instructors will help you find your way. They also give you a map of the course in the morning. GGLC uses a ton of cones to line the course unlike prosolo which on video looks confusing, but in real life is pretty easy to follow.

Thanks for all the answers, everyone. Two more questions. On a map like the one attached, what is the "overlap point" -- perhaps the point at which it's safe to send a second car? Second, what do the numbers represent? Sectors?

Overlap point is where we expect it to be safe to sent the next car from the start.

The number are the corner worker stations. It lets people know what region of cones they are responsible for working as their work assignment. For example if you work the course you may be assigned to station #4

Most of the courses I have done are there. Some lotus maps are missing since we don't typically post them in advance unlike the BMW club.

For the clinic will not forward course maps before a event because I don't want students to try and perceive how to approach it.

For our points events, I want to put a emphases on studying it on the course-walk through. Then going with the three formal scored runs and making any adjustments within that session.

Oh, one other nice feature about Marina, it actually has that grid pattern. Think they are 20 foot squares.

Just got the email from Concorso Italiano that it's going to be there new site, this year. It'll be interesting to see what they can do with.

Mike- I took over 1200 pics. In double checking I have a few of a RX7 in silver, even. I have no idea how I could have missed all those runs you took.

If you had seen the old hat Jason was wearing, you'd understand why he swiped a new one.
