sweet mate. storm photographs so beautifully. i was torn when i got mine. i test drove the mid blue exige but decided against it as my wife has a blue wrx at the time. so glad i went for storm now.
i was so lucky with the light today, soft warm sunlight behind light cloud, contrasting with the cool winter light. some full colour from today. |

Nice work Chris. I like the topless purple sky.
I was thinking of buying a digital SLR. Maybe I'll save my money after seeing the pros at work. Something tells me these pic's aren't point and shoot. |

jc, composition is key.
practise, practise, practise. i've been practising for over 25 years, still practicing, still learning. a dlsr will give you a versatility to explore, grow and improve - if you enjoy taking pics go for it. i love taking pics - that (and composition) is what it is all about. anyway enough talk from me... Learning from Paul...
Without doubt, our very own Skiddo does fabulous sheet-metal photography; simply the best I've ever seen.
What can we learn from his art? Obviously, his composition is superb; largely following the Golden Ratio. I believe studying the works of the masters in painting and sculpture is valuable; rarely does, "dead center Pete," composition have the power of 1.6:1. A big smooth sky is an incredible light source because it fills in the contours of cars, but Paul Cliff takes this a step further by finding a condition that adds a strong bit of directional light. On this side of the pond, we find these conditions at Magic Hour, just before sunset. Same goes for dawn, but you have to set up in the dark, not to mention rising very early. Wet streets add a great deal to car shots; easy in the UK! Here we often have to hire a water truck to wet the road. In the southern heat, we get just a few passes before we have to wet the road again. I am even more impressed with Paul's ability to find urban settings where the open space between buildings creates a natural "softbox" of open sky that puts the light where he wants it to fall on the car just as we do in a studio with a giant Chimera light box. Technically, Paul's ability to produce very rich contrast really makes his shots pop. He's never afraid of deep shadow areas. I certainly don't mean to imply that these techniques are "tricks" that we can emulate to produce work of his equal, but we can certainly learn from him. Again, Paul, my hat's off to you; you are the master of light! Best regards to all, Leo |

JC - Thanks! Been working on my photography as a hobby goal this year. It's amazing what you can do with filters (create a purple sky) or see below, though it's not Storm Ti...
![]() ![]() Excellent post Leo - Skiddo's work is breathtaking... Last edited by ChrisStarrUSA : 12-02-2006 at 12:43 PM. |

wow, leo. thank you. praise indeed.
i used to love shooting on film, i think the contrast thing comes from that. i miss fuji rhp 400 and ilford hp5. i shoot my digital stuff as flatly as possible and then try and give the shot a more film like look. thanks again appreciate it. a couple more... |

All I can say is OMG Wow. No, I mean really, WOW!
Out of all the car sites I've ever been on, and all the threads I've ever looked at, and all the beautiful photographs I've ever seen, I have NEVER seen brilliance such as yours. Hopefully I'll faint before I burn my camera.

Hey Chris... what type of filters are you using? I've been meaning to pick some up but don't know where to start. I figure maybe a circular polarizing filter to begin with... Great shots by the way!
