Lying about suspension? BIG NO NO

"This Lotus runs and LOT drives excellent with no problems found in the engine, transmission or suspension."

Neither the original nor the ebay seller's pics show suspension damage (that I can see). Would definitely need an inspection. Insurance may have totalled it due to the extensive fiberglass work required. Interesting find.

Looks like they replaced the door, and fixed the suspension?

edit; And they've driven it a mile.

I'm not saying there is or is not frame damage. However, those two pics are merely different camera angles with some fiberglass removed.

In one picture the tire is resting on the wire above it, in the other it is 4inches away. Or am I just being dumb?

Unless the bottom ball joint somehow popped out.. This car has damage to the suspension.. and the seller claims only fiberglass is damaged..

Im not hating on the salvage elise.. just the unthruthful seller.

From the pictures it looks like some work was done to the left side - the new door, and the camber of the front left wheel is noticeably improved. It's possible there WAS suspension damage that's been fixed, but honestly, if the suspension was damaged, I'd expect the frame to have been damaged also. There's a good chance they just bent the frame back to get the suspension back within spec. No matter the case, without knowing the full history of the car, this is definitely a car NOT to buy!

Working link (the one above didn't work for me): link

The ebay at least says that it is a salvage, and with the clams cost - it would be easy for it to have been written off.
So it is good the the seller is not dishonest.

The chassis/tub is pretty strong., but the A-arms are designed weak so that they fail first... and you can bend them just strapping them onto a trailer.
Suspension damage, and subsequent replacement is not the same as damaged suspension.

Good find - but it could be "as good as" or "better than" any other car out there... Just needs the inspection.

I posted this on here because I have a salvage Elise. I know what it takes to damage the suspension/frame.

Most people believe that fixing the frame is wrong, and some think its ok as long as it is done properly. But that still doesnt change the fact that the suspension was altered and is advertised as being completely fine.

Uh... the tire/wheel/hub position in this picture is not a trick of camera angle. It is four or five inches high AND four or five inches back.

Glad you guys are here...I'm in the market for a used Elise, and the salvage ones seem very very attractive. This one just showed up on Ebay again:

eBay Motors: Lotus : Elise (item 170293829638 end time Jan-18-09 20:12:30 PST)

Lotus Talk is better than Carfax. I could easily become the dufus saying, "Hi, I just bought a great salvaged Elise, any advise..."
