As for the people jumping on the bad wagon yelling to "sue 'em", wait a while. It just happened, and it will take a few days for things to get straightened out. I don't believe that it's been posted that the Goodyear shop is trying to get out of their responsibilities. I suspect that they will make it good in the end - the bad publicity of them not doing the right thing will cost them more in the long run.

But it will take a few days for the corporate big wigs, the lawyers, and the insurance guys to figure out what they are going to do. If any claims are denied, then it's time to start screaming. But doing so prior to any decisions is premature.
Thank you. I'm being patient and waiting to see what the Lotus Dealer and Goodyear propose. A lot depends on the actual damage which has yet to be determined.

I will give them the benefit of the doubt to make right on the situation, which I believe they will.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and concerns. I've remained level-headed about it and have a positive attitude. Worse things could have happend... personal injury, death, etc. It's only a material item and nothing that can't be cured.

Regards,

Karl

Qball, you should drop your car off lifts more often, you're quite the star. Maybe you can sell some of the broken parts on ebay to GoldenPalace.com

Best of luck in getting it resolved, we're all rootin' for ya! Hopefully this attention and teasing has served to make a truly crappy situation a little less crappy. You've gotta laugh a little. I'd be the first one with a machine gun at the shop if they'd done that to my car...and I admit even I'd laugh a little at this point.

Could be a media bonanza for the offending tire place if they play their cards right.

...or, just remove it when the car has all four wheels on the ground. Involves some reaching and lots of laying on the ground.

Yep. That's what I was thinking. If they/Goodyear steps up and resolves this incident quickly and favorably, it will be good advertising (at least not bad). If they don't, considering how rapidly it has spread around the Internet, they will have a very tarnished image. The cost of replacing the car with a brand new one will be much less than the cost of rebuilding their image - and that doesn't include what damages they would have to pay and their legal fees anyway.

Give Goodyear a reasonable time to resolve this and see how it goes. I doubt that they want to be grouped in the same category as most people consider JiffyLube...

Sorry to hear about your situation.

Being level headed and methodical in your documentation is the best thing you can do especially since your FIL is employed there.

I have come here from Modular Fords to read the full story.

I am in the minority of stang owners whose car is setup for road racing rather than drag racing even though I do more of the latter.

I am one of the people who is not blind to the fact that there are different cars for different people and can appreciate all different types of cars.

It's unfortunate to see all kinds of idiots come out of the woodwork to bash someone for no reason. It doesn't matter if the car is American, British, German, Italian, or Japanese. Expensive or inexpensive. big or small, fast or slow. There are always pathetic people with miserable lives which want to drag you down to their level. By turning a blind eye to those people you have shown that you are a better man than them.

I wish you the best of luck in getting a replacement vehicle which is to your satisfaction.

Regards,

Peter

We are car lovers.

We read.

We pick the car we want.

We form car clubs for those cars.

We love them very much.

We know everything about them, good and bad.

If anyone doesn't like our cars, why should we care?

We don't.

sorry to hear about your car. i have seen many lotus elises. very quick cars. alittle out of my price range but i do like the look of them. i drive a pontiac fiero, a mid engine car. for those who do not know anything about them, they have two coolant tubes that run along both side from front to back. i am very careful if i have a shop do any work to it. i have had to replace one of the tubes (not fun) alot fo shops just kick the lifts arms under the car and don't look. if the lift point are on the tube they will crush them.

Welcome rsnook! Shinoo Mapleton, the owner of one of the premier aftermarket suppliers for the Elise/Exige (sector111.com) was one of the engineers instrumental in the development of the Fiero. I remember falling in love with that car when it came out. Very cool. BTW, we have the same type of coolant system - tubes running from front to back in the Elise.

Qball,

I am also sorry to hear of your loss. I'm yet another new user who doesn't have a Lotus, but I am a Lotus enthusiast. I have long dreamed of owning one, and I have actually gotten my significant other's consent to name any future daughter's middle name as Elise and my son's first name as Colin (after Colin Chapman).

It pains me to see your vehicle in this situation, and I wish you the best. For now, I'll continue driving my poor man's Lotus, my Mazda Miata. It was the closest thing I could get at this time that was still light, great handling, and completely tossable.

Best wishes,

Casey

Qball, I just saw the link to this on Mustang Forums. As a former repair shop owner who has actually worked on a few Lotus vehicles, older ones, but enough to fully appreciate the uniqueness of Colin Chapman's creations. I think you are being more than reasonable about the whole thing. I had the interesting experiance of having a Europa JPS totaled while the owner was road testing it with me after a bit of tweaking on the Big Valve engine. She was driving as my feet won't fit in the footwell. I hope everything is resolved to your complete satisfaction. I am very sorry to see any car damaged by carelessness. I used to own a 66 Shelby GT350, so I can understand your concern about loss of value. Good luck!

Ouch it's very sad to see your car up in the air Like that. I hope that they get you a new one and you can always use the payment to pick up the "better" lotus esprit. However, I doubt you would do that since I wouldnt either the elise is too much fun to put a dollar value on. I really hate those that rate cars by dollar value not fun value. Sure a Rolls is expensive but not nearly the fun as a little lotus. Best of luck and hope you get a new one soon.
