Well it made it to the M3 Forums according to another ET Thread...
http://www.elisetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30793 Here's my reply... Hi M3 Forum members: I'm a former BMW owner (328is and 545i) and left the marque just a few months ago. I went to your forums and read your posts. Please pass this along to your members in my thread... >>Thanks for the kind words... Yes, my home life is different than most. I've remained level-headed because, you're right, there are worse things in life to stress about. My son Hunter is a precious gift. When I informed my wife about the Lotus damage, she freaked out... after she calmed down, I told her that the only thing important to me is that she, Hunter, and my family were safe. Everything else is immaterial. The Elise deal is a mess... but nothing that money, insurance, and time can't resolve. What a huge difference in maturity expressed by the M3 Forum members, compared to some of the other sites that this "incident" has made it to. Kind regards, Qball<< |

Someone on my dental message board posted a link to it! I've also seen it on the Fchat board. Amazing how stuff likes this spreads on the internet.
Sorry to hear about this "accident." I hope it resolves in a positive way for you. Mike

Just saw this on a couple of my forums.
I am adding it to my Range Rover forum. Very sorry about the damage I agree that you just need a new Elise that one is totaled. I sell high end automobiles and got a chance to drive an elise we had in stock at one point. Most fun car I have ever driven. |

im sorry but repairing the car should be nowhere in your vocabulary.. considering the car, its use, the damage and the unseen damage.. also considering you brought the car in looking one way w/o possible frame damage and now its condition i would settle for nothing less than a lawsuit and a new car.. no offense to your FIL but it was not his mistake so nothing will happen to him. the mistake goes to the corporate office for not training its people to give a **** and read directions. large corporation considering the pictures you have and etc.. will gladly give you an elise of your choice w/o so much as a threat. hell theyd prolly give you 3-4-5 if you had a decent lawyer

Anyone who bashes the Elise has no clue in regards to the pure passion of a true sports car.
Qball - Sorry about the horrific event your car went through! What a major headache! But as others have said, at least your family is healthy and safe. Its only a car....even though its a damn fine one. |

Hello from NSXPrime!
Sorry about the car. You're handling this famously. There was an incident with a dealer wrecking an 04 NSX about a year ago on Prime, and they ended up replacing his car with a brandnew white NSX (which became the best NSX-R close ever). This forum seems more mature than most. Prime is like that. It's good to see. The Lotus would be my favorite car if I could fit in one ![]() Good luck in your 'adventure'. |

Mr. Qball,
I have come from the land of Mitsubishi Starions, as this post was listed on starquestclub.com. I am very sorry for what happened to your car. It really is a shame. You really should push to get a new car from this mess, as I too believe that the car will never be the same, simply on the grounds of the fact that it had never been repaired before it went in, and would now have to go on with a repair of questionable success, both from a structural integrity aspect, as well as the aspect of how well it would hold up over time. Some people just can't seem to understand that some cars require a little more attention than others. The Starion has a metal rocker sill extension that gets trashed if the tire shop is not paying attention. Guess how many of those have been replaced. At any rate, I'd gladly pay for new rocker sills daily than have my car tossed off the lift. I read elsewhere in the thread that some folks wanted the thread hidden. I think the publicity will work to your better advantage in getting the situation resolved as quickly as possible, and more importantly, to your complete and total satisfaction. On my own personal note, when the Starion goes to the shop, I go in with it, and I make certain that things are being accomplished to my specification. I don't even leave my Ford Taurus alone with them. I'm glad I found this place. Reading this thread, I found out a lot about how the Elise is constructed, and especially to be careful jacking them up. I recall my days in the shop working on certain cars....Lincolns got the air suspension disabled, or it would blow the air springs, Corvettes have to have all the doors open, or it supposedly cracked something, I forgot what....it's been a long time. I'll pop by, and see what comes of this, I'm sorta interested. Good luck. Tim

qbal..I just read the whole thread, end to end. There sure are a lot of envious people out there, but more importantly, there are a lot more concerned, caring people out there. My first reaction to the pics was horror, but really as you say it is just a car, and can be replaced. My respect for you comes from seeing your family pics, and your level headed attitude towards it all. FIL's, family, and children can't be replaced. You have something many out there will never have. Thanks for sharing.

I don't understand why some people are talking about lawsuits already. There really shouldn't be a need for that. The situation seems crystal clear to me. They broke the car, and are completely responsible for it. The only question is if it's totalled, or can be repaired in a reasonable way. We can't tell that from a few pictures. If it were my car, I would hope to get it totalled. The damage looks extensive, and I wouldn't want to own a repaired wreck.
I would give them a chance to do the right thing. They must be insured, or at least have the budget to take care of this. The mechanic might not get a positive performance appraisal. But between the shop and the car owner, I'm optimistic that this will be sorted out without any confrontation. And I'm not surprised about how quickly this spread. This thread had internet celebrity written all over it when I saw the picture. My favorite so far is the South Park photoshop.

Hey guys.
I have to admit I'm a Farker. I've been following this story since it broke there. I read through the comments on Fark and a few here and I hate to think that's how Fark is being represented. There were a few people over there like me who tried to reason with them, but you know what they say about mobs. And yes, I'm one of those people who only registered to post on this topic. Sorry for that, but I couldn't resist. I've always loved the Lotus Elise and wish I could get my hands on one (maybe even the Exige ). Being a college student at UCLA - proving that not all Farkers are idiots and live in their mom's basements, although I have to disclose that I am a Computer Science and Engineering major like the stereotype - I won't have one for a good few years. But you can bet it'll be first on my list of sports cars when I can finally afford one.Right now I don't drive anything special - a 2003 Nissan Altima with the bigger engine - 3.5L V6. Sure it puts out a fair 250hp but it's also a good deal heavier than a Lotus. It's pretty fast for a sedan, 0-60 in 6.5 and it'll hit 130 pretty quickly before the electronic speed limiter kicks in (don't ask how I know this). Anyways, the point is that although it's by no means a sports car, I love it to death. I flinch when I see that little scratch from when I lightly scraped that pole. I cringe that while I'm away at college, my little sister is learning to drive on it. It's not about how much the car costs or the kind of performance it has, it's about appreciating and respecting the car for what it is. If you have a true passion for your car, it's no one else's business to criticize you for it. |

Checking in from.. well.. a few random boards.
What happened to your car really does suck. It happened to a truck I used to own (1994 Ford F-150 XLT 4x4, lifted 7") where they lifted it up and went over on the front, but because it was lifted no harm was done. A lot of tire shops don't take too much care when it comes to a customers car. The shop I normally go to does, but one of the newer guys lifted up my 1986 Camaro up by the fender and completely trashed it. Good luck getting a settlement. BTW, any Audi owners ?
