Welcome to you and the other 100,000 + new people who have visited this amazing website.

These cars are unique sports cars, like no other.

As Ferris Bueller says:

Ferris: [to the camera] If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away?
[beat]
Ferris: Neither would I.

qball,
I saw your car today at Dimmitt in Clearwater. I was taking my car in for my front clam repair (had a run in with a trailer hitch on a pickup truck wednesday). I feel bad for you, but I know things will come out great. You ought to buy the new phantom black Exige S they have in stock with your insurance settlement. Best of luck.

Qball -

My condolences on your misfortune. My Elise was run into by a police car, so I know how this feels.

I hope things work out well for you.

Hey fellas...the EliseTalk members don't rip each others cars apart. This is the website for one of the finest sports cars in the world...but we do not put down other cars or car owners. We laugh at some efforts to customize certain cars, but that's about it.

Please stop arguing on our website.

People, let's be neighborly and welcome the new comers. Granted they are not used to our way of doing things. So let's put our best face forward as they pass through our 'living room' and discuss this issue.

I'll agree, I drive a 1986 Chevy Camaro IROC Z and have owned numerous RWD GM vehicles, but I know of and respect other types of cars too.

the elise is so light, that once you take a single wheel off, it throws the weight balance of the car enough for it to fall off a lift!

Greetings from e90post.com! It seems we're a little slower in linking to your story than some of the other forums but we love our cars there, too. I hate to see something like this happen to such a gorgeous car. On the plus side, I'm a big fan of the Elise and now I've learned of a forum that is passionate about the car. I'll check in here from time to time. I hope it works out for you, qball. I'm interested to see how the story ends.

Also, the best to you and your family. I have two little ones, and reading about your son really puts things into perspective.

Qball,

I guess you should have gotten the Toyo T1Rs! I'm so sorry; I feel sick to my stomach.

Wow, this thread is out of control, at least we Etalkers can all say we all knew qball before he was famous!

I've been known to be pretty savage about the abilties of fellow automotive techs. I'm a former service tech for Mazda, Mitsubishi, VW, Mercedes, Saab, MG-Rover and Lotus. I also admit I'm not the best person with their hands. But one thing I know, if you don't know ASK! It is possible to put an Elise on a 2 post hoist and remove it's wheels, and most of the suspension. I know because I've done it. The secret is placing the engine as close to the posts as possible, and use the counterweight as recommended by Lotus.
Good luck with insurance.

This will probably get lost in all the banter, but what do the Elise folks think of this potential solution? They are aluminum spacers which can be mounted between the rear jacking points and the undertray, allowing use of the correct lift points without removing the undertray:

I know nothing about a Lotus, and in these parts, I doubt that I have ever seen one.

I just wanted to say that I am sorry that this happened to you. And I wish you the best of luck in whatever direction this leads.

I will be following this to see how things turn out.
