Just to be clear, it's not my idea. Just passing along info from the friendly folks over here in Germany. They cost about 40 bucks and I'm sure they would ship to the US.

Seems like a good idea although I'd worry about someone using a jack with too big of a cup and ending up damaging the diffuser by pushing it up and around the spacer.

Hockey pucks are your friends! Lots of guys on the Speedster forums take their own hockey pucks with them to the shop to make sure the lift loads are transferred correctly (and only) to the underlying structure and / or this little spacer.

But then we're back at the same problem, I guess. If you can't trust Joe Mechanic to use the right lifting point, can you trust him to use the hockey pucks?

UPDATE: 11/10/06

Car has been deemed totalled.

According to their claims department, it's now up to Goodyear's Legal Department and their Insurance to make a determination as to handle the vehicle.

sounds like good news from your perspective. The car would make a great parts car.

Is it really a ?

To me the worst thing that could happen in your situation is that it wasn't totaled. I'd forever wonder if any new squeak or rattle came from the drop.

I'd LOVE for a shop to drop my Exige off a lift so I could get an Exige S...

I too do not see this as a problem. They now owe you a car. The only catch maybe that they decide to pay for a replacement 05. However, the extra you should get for going through this hassle should easily get you into a new one.

Make sure the adjusters realize that they’ll have to pay out above and beyond the blue book value of the vehicle for all the modifications done to the car. Did yours have dual oil coolers? Is there any way to rip out the second oil cooler from the damaged vehicle and put it in the “new” one you’ll be receiving?

This is actually pretty rotten news after seeing all the time/money you put into installing things in the vehicle.

At the very least quote them for a baffled oil pan from Sector 111. I think it’s better for YOU that the car is totaled but it’s terrible that you’ll have to “settle” for a replacement from some insurance adjusters who don’t care about the rarity of the early build differences.

Perhaps someone else with insurnace industry knowledge can help you figure out how to swing that...

Sorry about this unfortunate incident, qball, but this is great news. Best of luck with your new purchase!

It is good news as long as it doesn't stretch out legally. Yo, Goodyear: Do the right thing! (Imagine the bad publicity it would generate if they don't.)

If the car is truly a total you can let your insurance company know that you have an immediate buyer for it at a "total" price. I have a buddy that has been searching for just such a car..

I want a set of those lifting spacers Shinoo......

Porsche requires that you strap a Carrera GT to the lift when working on it and altering the weight distribution. I would recomend doing it to the Elise/Exige as well. Motorcycle tie down straps would work fine. I know you all have about four or five sets of them in the garage like me from those dirt bike days..

My sincere condolences on the passing of your car. It can be replaced, and you're keeping a great humor about this. its great to be part of this community with you and all the other regular Etalkers.

If anyone wants a pair of the lifting spacers (Opel's posted photo from the top of this page) I can make you a custom set to fit your jack saddle or lift arm. PM me with the diameter and thickness you desire and I will get back to you with a price. I would expect the price to be around the $40 shown in the link to the Opel Speedster ad. depending on the amount of aluminum required.

If this will prevent more dropped/damaged Elises I will be happy to provide this service.
