If my car was totaled, I'd be most concerned about getting credit for the extras-expensive shocks, one of a kind swaybar, harnesses and bar, upgraded stereo, exhaust, etc. The car itself should be quite replacable. If you had a sport suspension, they'll need to match that. Hopefully they'll scour reputable dealers with used cars for sale in order to determine how much your check is.

If your car is paid for, you might be able to get it back and take a lesser amount of cash. If the bank owns it, you'll probably never see it again. Good luck.

This is still the best news you could have gotten.

OUCH! So sorry about your car. I just had to change the oil in my Lotus, 'cause I don't trust anyone else. (The closest Lotus dealership is 6 hrs away!) Good luck, and I hope everything works out for you.

No...I don't think so. This thread should be it's own website.

Lotus Elise probably doesn't have a blue book valuation because it's low production and relatively new. For cars like this, insurance adjustors usually look at actual high/low resale values of the few cars on the market at the time and take the mean of that. Anyone else had a totaled Elise who can confirm this?

Every thing that an insurance company does is open for negotiation. The person making the claim has the upper hand. My only advice is rent a car on their tab (Incentive to speed up the settlement) and hold your ground they will cave.

Someone should email the pics to Leno. He's a car nut. He'd probably find a way to slip it into his program.

I can't believe that happened. I'd be beside myself.
Hopefully you get a good insurance adjuster and they take care of your claim properly.
