I normally wouldn't butt my nose into another board, but some of the things other non-members have said have pushed me to do so.

Quote:
It's a car, not even an expensive one. Get over it.
Notice this guy's name is '74 Dodge. I'm willing to bet he owns a '74 Dodge. How would he like getting his car totalled, after having POINTED OUT to the retards at Goodyear that his car needed to be lifted differently? He must not be passionate about his car either, seeing as a '74 Dodge is definately no expensive car.

You cannot measure passion with dollar signs, or else I guess I have no passion. But we all know this not to be true. I may not have an Elise, or a Porsche, or a Ferrari, but I have 3 Ford Focii. That's plural for Focus.

And I know how I would feel if my project car was damaged or destroyed, especially by someone's sheer lack of attention span. I don't care if my car could be easily replaced, it's still my baby.

Just like the Elise in this story was someone's baby. So sorry this happened to you. Even though I may envy you for what you can afford and I cannot, I don't hate you for it, or wish any harm to it.

"Man, just cuz he got a car he gon' be drivin that ****." -Twizted.

Holy crap batman! That’s hilarious!

I wonder if the drivetrain could be added to my Toyota Sienna. I could then take the powerful Sienna engine and drop it in my Elise!

Qball, I like your attitude you kept through all of this. What else are you going to do? In time it will all work out. It's just a PITA in the meantime. My car is now painted and waiting on a couple small parts to finish assembly and soon I'll have it back from the body shop- better than new (cause it will have Chesters HID kit now- lol). I did find it kind of amusing though through my incident how so many people seemed to really think that somehow this car was my baby or child (Ok i have no kids) or family member or something. ??? I mean sure I like it very much and it brings me great joy in both cleaning it up and cruising it and flogging the crap out of it- but lets be realistic- lol.

Here was my e-mail I sent out to my friends telling the story and clearing that up for them a little at the end. (my story is on here under "another CO goes down to a Suburban" http://www.elisetalk.com/forums/show...light=suburban )

titled: Arch Enemies meet Again
What happens when little orange cars meet their arch nemisis in the form of the soccer mom equipped with a big Urban Assault Vehicle? Unfortunatly the photo's below. We were sitting in the left turn lane right across the street from my business when she decided to back up to let a Fed Ex truck turn in front of her. In these pics she had already pulled off the front of me. Her bumper was originally above and behind the top of the headlight. You would think with properly adjusted mirrors she should of saw me based on the offset you can see in the photos and the flaming orange color. I guess that would be asking too much. Seriously, who starts backing up in the middle of the street in a forward moving lane? This lady (who was also in an accident- two days ago- that's who).

It's at a body shop in Tucker now that specializes in exotic car repair. They had 2 Loti in there at the time, a 60's Jag, and a 2007 S-500 with 3/4 of the whole rear cut off of it. I should get the intitial repair estimate next week. Guessing about $12-$14K if the front crash structure was unharmed, but if it's been touched repair will be in $20's K range based on most other similar incidents. They did say don't be suprised if it takes 2 months or longer while waiting on parts from England.
Her insurance is covering everything since she was at fault, including unlimited luxury car rental. So I'm stuck in a boat but perfecting the art of drifting. lol.

I'm fine. It was probably a 2 MPH accident at best. Well I did get a splinter while looking at the damage, lol- so you can still send flowers and meals if you want. Just glad I wasn't on the bike.

Thanks for all the calls and e-mails. I think a lot of you has a misconception of how I think of the car though. Sure I like it, sure I enjoy driving it every day and look forward to it. Yes I take great care of it. I should, it was expensive and I work hard for it. Yes I'm bummed to miss a couple of the fall Lotus moutain runs with miriads of others of the same vehicles. However it's just a bunch of metal and plastic. It's not a child or family member. I didn't cry over it and you shouldn't either. lol. To the people that have told me "I shed a tear for you" or something- please dont. Save that for when a SUV driving soccer Mom mutilates me on the bike jabbering away on her cell phone. I'll have this orange car back in a couple months and it will be spiffy new. (but still feel free to send the meals and flowers for the heck of it)

Hey man, really sorry to hear about what happened to your car. I've had garages screw me over on stuff before, not quite as bad as what happened to you, but to the point that I do all of my own repairs to my cars and trucks myself. Only things I have outside shops do are tire mounting/balance, alignments, and transmission rebuilds.

On behalf of the folks at The DML (www.dakota-truck.net) we wish you good luck and good motoring.

I hail from The Car Lounge (which grew from VWvortex).

qball, glad to hear that nobody got hurt. But, that does suck about your car. At least they DID total it.

But, yeah, I can completely see how you would feel the way you did. All of you haters that are like "it's not even an expensive car"... STFU. When I wrecked my $1200 Jetta, I definitely wasn't happy.

And, yes, yet another guy who doesn't own a Lotus. But, I can definitely appreciate them. There's a reason why the Mk2 Golf is my favorite VW. Because it does everything a Mk5 Golf/Rabbit can, while weighing almost a half ton less.

If I had lots of time and money, I'd probably build a Locost with a VW diesel up front. (Yes, I like those diesels. )

Oh, and BTW... I've seen a yellow Elise around Newark, OH. Is it anyone on here? Nice car.

*whew* I think that'll work for the introduction. Hopefully Goodyear makes good, and you end up with a better car than you started with, qball!

Edit: Oh, and as for the making fun of not so tastefully modified cars... you WILL laugh WITH me when referring to my Civic, right? Right? (Note that it was modified as a joke. Thank my local VW diesel club. )

qball, I went to Dimmitt today and saw your car! Wow, the pictures do no justice to what it looks like in person. Scott was telling me that they totaled it and that they are waiting on Goodyear. It was painful to look at. I took some pictures with my phone. I like your cup holder though, where did you get it? I am now waiting to hear from them to finish up with the 15k inspection. I am going to drive my car back when the parts arrive, i.e. dash...etc.

Anyone else had a totaled Elise who can confirm this?

My '05 was totaled out when it was just 4 months old. I recieved the amount required to purchase a new '05 from USAA. Luckily for me, MSRP went up about $2K after I purchased, so I got enough $$$ to cover the taxes too!

Hmm, is this unusual?
I had two cars in our houshold totalled by Farmers and in each case they would pay me anough to buy same/similar car inlcuding all possible tax and registration fees on top of car price. I take this replacement value insurance for granted.

Maybe it was because the car was so new.

Receive a call from their claims investigator today. They are going to send an appraiser that specializes in exotic/high-end cars to confirm the conclusion of the dealership that it is totaled.

If so, then they will call me.

That's all I know.
