Look at what happened....
Pics Fixed
So, long story short. A Grand Caravan was coming head on with me the other day because they failed to see the cars in their lane stopped turning left in front of me. Nonetheless, to keep from getting hit head on, I swerved to the right and took a hit at the left rear of my car. Here are the pictures. Only because the insurance seems to think it is repairable (granted they don't have an estimate yet), I wanted to know you guys' opinion. Thanks, Corey. By the way, I am fine. The girl behind me who got hit head on had to be airlifted to the hospital and I believe left with many broken bones, but is alive. 6 total cars involved. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ^I'm having a little trouble sharing this because I can't login to photobucket at work.... The top seems to fit fine, but from the pictures it looks like it doesn't only because I had one of the support beams off. Last edited by CoreyDaniels : 04-05-2009 at 02:11 PM. |

Glad to hear you are OK.
On the other hand I am pretty sure your car is going to be written off as a total loss. Just seeing the remains of the wheel and all the broken suspension pieces is enough to convince me the frame is bent and the rear subframe is destroyed. Again, the main thing is you are OK and the car can be replaced. |

Good job reacting and probably saving yourself some serious injuries. I'm not going to claim to be an expert or anything, but imo it probably is repairable, but you are looking at a rear clam, door, and lower sill replacement... and that's just the body work. I know other cars have been totaled for less damage. I'm curious to see how it ends up.

I'll agree with tesprit....rear subframe is gone, as well as ( more than likely ) some engine parts.....and depending on how hard the tub hit the ground....might be total loss.

Glad you're safe. Sorry about the car.
Had some bad luck with my Elise this weekend; someone slashed my soft top. If you can sell yours please contact me at info@agnoses.com Maybe one of ours can be whole and you can have a bit of cash. |

Yea, when I saw the van pull into my lane from behind those cars, I knew it wasn't going to be pretty. But I knew I didn't want them in the front of me. After I got hit, the car spun about 210 degrees and i skid into oncoming traffic backwards for about 150 ft until the car stopped in the grass. I'm wondering if while I was skidding I damaged the tub.

If that's a 2005, it's going to be a total loss.
It's cheaper for the insurance company to pay you out versus the extensive repairs they'd have to make to bring that car back to 100%. Best of luck! .

that doesn't look pretty.
Glad you came out of that alive and in one piece. My old 2005 elise had less visible damage and was ruled a total loss. they'll most likely pay out. do some independent research as to what a replacement elise would cost in your area. And haggle with the insurance company. don't accept their first settlement offer.

I agree with the totalled group. Insurance company is probably just looking at the areas of damage: rear quarter and rear panel. As other have said, I think you've got some frame damage and my understanding is that one the aluminum frame is damaged, it's better and probably easier to write it off. If there's frame damage, I don't think you want the car back.

Glad you're here posting about it.
Looks like you've got an 06 (raised Lotus letters)..... but I'm in agreement with those saying totaled. |

Thank you all for the kind words. My mother wants me to get a BMW. I told her, Had I not been driving the Lotus, I wouldn't be walking away from it.
It is actually an 05. It came with the raised lettering when I bought it used. Just playing the waiting game to see what happens. I'm not too worried about what they offer me for the car. If it is less than what I owe, I've got gap insurance. |

If they total it post the VIN number here so future eBay buyers will know it was wrecked.
