Next Exit 200 Lightyears

Oh man, I'm sorry to see that. It's toast. Unfortunately, I have to drive to Atlanta tomorrow for the Elises's 1000 mile service. I was already worried about I-20 and I-285 because this nonsense turns up on those highways too often. I won't sleep well tonight. Maybe there's some hope of finding the irresponsible idiot who did this. Don't we pay taxes for safe driveable highways?
I'm glad that you weren't hurt. Good luck on having it "made right." |

Have it totaled and get another one I really hope you have a good insurance company that doesn't try to BS you and give you enough to get a new one. Maybe time to upgrade to an exige

It would be nice if you and others had police reports and they tracked the offending party down - wishful, I know. But, I can't tell you how many times we've had dirt/sand/gravel haulers that have dropped stuff for whom we've had to report claims. So if you can track it down, it's in your best interest.

There may be useful information in these two threads (both of these were totalled):
Wood Block Vs. Exige......Block +1 (56K no way) Avoid large objects in the road! (chunks of concrete) There is another thread where someone hit a bumper or part of a bumper that was in the road, but I haven't found it yet. I think that Lotus was totalled too. You definitely aren't alone: Your worst object in middle of highway story

Sucks, and dealing with insurance and getting it inspected may not be fun for the next couple of weeks, but hang in there and you'll be in a new elise soon enough
Also be glad there wasn't a pile up on the freeway, didnt lose control, or the peice wasn't hit up and went through the windshield. Cars are replacable!

So glad to hear you are OK - that object could have done a lot more damage and potentially caused you to loose control!
![]() Sad news though is the chassis is definitely toast and is a relatively expensive item. What is expensive it removing everything off your broken one and bolting it to the good one . Usually though much bodywork is destroyed before the chassis is damaged and as such a chassis swap + many panels etc will total a car. Even in your case with minimal panel damage it is unlikely that repair will be economic.Hope there is a way to track that object and find the offender! PS: just so that you know we aren't pulling your chain here are links to two similar incidents that totalled cars: hit bumper (still had tag so culprit identified!) hit block of wood |

damn that sucks.. yea deff looks totaled.. if you could, i would still buy it back and get a new one.. spare motors and other small things are always good to have.. you could even use the spare motor as a rebuild project.. make a beast out of it.. or just sell some good parts.. good luck with everything..

...i really hope your insurance coverage comes through...not to put the fear of god into you, but last year i drove over a rock dropped by a construction truck, punctured my oil pan, and insurance wouldn't cover it...

OMG, sooo sorry to see this you should definatly keep the car and seel parts from it if the insurance gets you a new one, that way the money made from selling parts could get you better parts for the new elise, Good Luck
