Any man with a 5 or 6 point must read this!

Found on ScienceDirect:

ScienceDirect - Injury Extra : Scrotal injury following restrained impact: A risk of misnavigation

NSFW, some graphic images, be warned...

It seems a badly adjusted 6 point could rip off your testes. Now imagine what a 5pt would do!!!

4pts have been a issue for a while. Many racetracks/drivers schools/insurance companies do not allow 4pt belts at all. They claim OEM 3pt or 5-6 pt belts only due to the submarining issues that 4pt belts have.

I use 4pt belts in 1 of my cars..... they are being removed & I will go back to stock

>>>"Primary closure of the scrotal wound was possible due to the lack of contamination..."

This supports the 'always wear clean underwear' dictum.....but seems to be an OBVIOUS contradiction....an impact like that, and you're quite likely to SOIL that underwear.

Personally I think 4 points are just fine in my Exige. In order for me to submarine under my 4 point I'm going to have to hit something so hard that submarining under the 4 point is going to be the least of my worries.

Note that this type of injury will not happen with a 4 point harness.

I always use a loop and d-ring crotch strap instead of the snap in ones in the hope of avoiding this but I'm not sure it does. Those pictures are not going to go away fast enough.

this was posted before here.

my thoughts are the harness was not properly adjusted.

the issue with the 4 point harness is the buckle damaging your internal organs when it rides up your torso with the shoulder harness restraining you.

if your running the 4 pt. w/o asm dont expect to get out on track with any reputable club, and if you do, good luck with that.

nobody will be able to talk me out of using a properly set up and adjusted 5-6 point set up, with the HANS device.

whats wrong with the ASM?

I'm speculating, but I think the angle of the seat contributed to it. the more inclined the seat back is, the more likely you are to submarine and suffer ball-damage. if your torso is perpendicular to the floor, its pretty difficult to submarine
