Please cancel the Circut City Ad!!!

That thing is ridiculous! it jumps all over my screen.

And those ads that make noise when you scroll over them.

Please, this two are just out of line.

I agreee! These are costing them business, not helping. The ads are really detracting from the otherwise professional looking site.

Don't worry. They'll probably be out of business soon.

I don't know. It's getting kind of interesting to see what cheesy, insulting advertisement gimmick this site will come up with next. Could charge for the photos. Or perhaps for each posting. Maybe by the word? Infinite popups leading to male enlargement, baldness cures and drugs without legit prescriptions? Or flood up with spam unless an extortion is paid?
But I must admit, that Circuit City ad is remarkably annoying. Kudos.

Firefox + Adblock Plus.

I haven't seen so much as a single google ad in over 3 years.

I turned the adblocker off to see what you guys were talking about - damn that CC ad is the worst.

Those ads are like car salesmen that swoop down upon you when you. Car salesmen with slicked back hair, halitosis, and prodigious amounts of nose hair. "What can I help you find?" How about a taser?

OP is right. The Circuit City splashing is focking annoying and intrusive. This kind of advertising and other things like hotlinked words is making internet browsing more and more unpleasant.

My wife liked the Food Network site for great recipes until it got so busy with crap like this that it is nearly impossible to use.

In ie, use privacy to find the websites the ads are from. Enter these in the hosts file to block the ads.

Obnoxious. It opened a circuit city ad when I tried to click this link. I wish they would realize getting a click isn't worth seriously pissing people off.

That *is* annoying!

I find that with Adblock I can't even open the threads where folks complain about the ads.

And the most important thing, they don't want to change the community. They wanted the same people involved as before. In their words, they are taking over a successful community, why change it. The same admins. The same forum mods. They will just handle the advertising and forum administration and server stuff. We will still set the vision and direction of the community.

Of course, like anything in life, this all remains to be seen. If things change radically for the worse, then I will be the first to admit this was a mistake and I will catch you on the flip side.
Thanks.
I'd consider this a radical change for the worse. But, again, I don't know where this flip side is, and I might not want to be caught there. I really thought there's not much in the way of advertising that would make me really care. THIS STUFF IS ANNOYING AS HELL! Randy, can you admit this is something you wouldn't have done? Or were you just pulling our collective legs with the above quote.

Well if it helps to keep the site running I can live with it. But it is pretty stupid when I'm reading the forum at work and a SUV add pops up and starts blaring out of my speakers or those adds that pop out and dominate your entire screen. "HEY! LOOK AT MY AD! We're trying to be funny to attract your business although we come off more as annoying!"

It kinda reminds me of the commercials on TV that degrade men, sure it was cute at first but now its over played. The man did something stupid, he's utterly mentally retarded and his super intelligent wife/girlfriend saves the day with witty but loving banter.

Of course I would not have done this. I was leaning towards cancelling ALL banner ads since I was tired of a few idiots that claimed I was biased towards the paying vendors (which was amusing but got old). I never started this site to make ad revenue, but autoforums is a business.

I made an agreement when I sold it that I would not compete with them for a year. I would help them run this forum as long as I wanted. They offered some kind of salary and I declined as I don't need a job... never did this for the money. They also agreed, but not contractually, that they would not make major changes in the ad scheme. I told them it was my biggest concern.

I hate pop overs, pop unders, pop ups, underlined words, etc. Positively hate them. That is my take.

I will express my concerns to management, but I have zero control over the ad side of lotustalk right now.

Stay tuned....
