That's fine, I said "I believe" not that I was sure, I've never been in there so I assumed by "enter at your own risk" they don't moderate it (that's usually what it means). And you see there's the beauty, they have a political section and I don't have to see it

Removing moderation would reduce the impact but IMHO that is not ever going to be a good thing.
Again, you are going to have to moderate political threads whether they are in "other", or in their own section, so what difference does it make? If it's in it's own section, a person can be assigned to deal with it specifically and less people will read the threads, hence less complaints.

I just don't understand why you guys continually come up with such lame excuses not to do it. At the very least, you should give it a try and see if it works or not

I just find them entertaining to bust the chops of extremeists i would never want to be around in person for more than a minute, if that.

this forum would be a much nicer place w/o them, and what do they add to a car website anyway?
I agree - take it somewhere else.

I think there needs to be a separate forum for people who feel the need to post complaints about there not being a separate forum for people who feel the need to post complaints.

Oh wait...

I vote for either banning political/religious threads or adding a subforum for them. (Yes - I understand the irony as I am one of the posters in those threads...)

ahh yes....politics and religion....what MOST wars are started over.... I predict that more threads will be closed in THAT category than any other.

Despite the fact that I post in political threads, I would have no problem with banning them. For one thing I would have more free time.... But they can definitely lead to animosity between members....I generally do well not holding grudges, unless someone resorts to namecalling (I have my list)

for example, glb and I often butt heads in these threads...I had the opportunity to meet him a year or two ago at a meet...nice guy...and other than a small nail hole in one of my tires (maybe from his Obama button?), and a few key marks I made out ok (j/k)

So would you be happy with a separate section for Politics/Religion/News and make us mods happy by setting it up so that every thread automatically closed and was banned after 10 posts?

Okay... I'm kidding...

Cheers,
Kiyoshi

it is an active forum with a good number of participants, so you you have a diverse interst base that will include non car things. forumns with little user base (m.m. comes to mind) are more focused on 2-3 active topics in 6-8 active threads only.

my personal vote is to have a "current event, politics, religion" right after - "other" - a good depository, makes sense, clearly there is a 'demand' for such a depository. reality is the threads exist HERE, and they are active.

mods should like the idea - becasue once you gather all the treads together under one catagory, it makes it realy easy to delete tham all at once! ha!

oh, and it not a car forum!!! it is an ELISE forum!! this is ELISEtalk - not like all lotus, or all cars or anythng.... heaven forbid you open the flood gates and allow topics other than elise's

I was trying to find a mission statement or something similar, but I couldn't. After looking at a couple pages of Randy Chases thread starters, extrapolating that over 945 pages of his thread starters you come close to 3,000 threads he started that don't have anything to do with cars, and lets say I'm way off and it and it's half of that. It still reflects what I believe is his philosophy. I'm not going to put words in his mouth, but the way "I" look at it it is a realitively open forum for Lotus enthusiasts, not an auto forum for Lotus enthusiasts. Just by the threads we see each day most are about the car some are about life. The odds just seem to play out, large percentage car. Low percentage on life, just as Randy's posts. I think he set the tone, and he hit the nail on the head from day one and that is truely amazing.

I vote for an open forum. If you don't want to discuss politics just ignore those discussions. It is interesting to hear what other people in other parts of the country think about state and national policy and some of the references to laws and issues you may not otherwise run across. Those with the discernment to choose a unconventional car like a Lotus may have a worthwhile, if unusual, political opinion to share. This is a United States-based forum and public discussion of politics is a marked national characteristic. It is obvious that government influences the circumstances of owning a car and it would be impossible to eliminate politics from the issues that crop up in owning a Lotus (emissions, bumper exemptions, warranty, etc.). Lotustalk is a private forum so any rules can be implemented, but aside from civility issues, political discussion is subjectively interpreted and one person's good is another's bad.

If a political section does ever make it onto this forum, I would like to be able to disable it in the UserCP. Those that want it, get it.

You forgot about driving to the local college to pick up girls with a bottle of champagne, and driving in strong winds, and how to get a Lotus to pull over, and driving with your jimmy out the window.

And of course, the damned ALARM...

I wouldn't mind if the political stuff was more clearly moved into another subforum. Still, sometimes car topics naturally morph into politics... especially lately.

OTOH, I find it interesting that the same crowd who cut their chops on the First Amendment for the last 40 years now want to limit political speech by various means and methods. My, how the worm has turned!

Honestly, for me it wouldn't make any difference. I always hit "New Posts", so I'm not even aware of what subforum threads are in.
