They seem to be like that game at Chucky Cheese's.....where no matter how many squirrels you whack with the mallet, another one just pops up.

That Chucky Cheese game is the most frustrating game in the Universe.
So are the political threads!
Thanks Tracy! Great analogy!

no they keep poping up because they are allowed here on LT.
if they (political threads)were not allowed, they wouldnt be here.

If you can keep pictures of scantily clad women off this site, then it would work for politics also.

the rules are really whacked here.

just stop allowing the political $h!t here, and viola!!!!!! its gone.
the politics ruins what would be a great CAR website.

i deal with it by participating (in the politcal threads) and taunting those whose world revolves around their politcal views being forced onto others.

eliminating the politcal threads here is a win/win situation for everyone, including the moderators.

I see a simple POLL happening here.

1. Political Threads are NOT ALLOWED on Lotus Talk
2. Political Threads ARE ALLOWED on Lotus Talk

Simple and plain. No arguments for or against. A simple Poll.
Just like Steve's pic. Thumbs up, or thumbs down.

Are you ready?

Or allow it and don't moderate it.
This way everyone is entitled to an opinion no matter how worthless it may be.
If another member complains or gets his feelings hurt.......such is life.....and who really cares anyway. He can always turn the computer off.

But the rules are what they are. We're guests in someone elses house.
If we don't like the rules we always have the option to move out.

I must admit I did find it amusing that some called for unity in an entire nation of 300 million, and then clearly demonstrated that a mere 50 members of a small message board couldn't even achieve the proposed goal.

Why not make a separate area for political threads? (Like on Ferrarichat.)

That way, anyone who doesn't want to see political threads doesn't have to.

Its a nice idea - but while this simple idea seems to be a solution it isn't that simple

How do you define a political thread? Are gun threads political? Do we also ban gun threads??? What about threads that diverge and become political?? Is it still political if it is discussing another country or the UN??

LotusTalk is usually a pretty civil place to hang out - even the political threads are mostly civil
Sometimes though emotions overcome restraint and people post silly things
Banning certain types of posts would possibly reduce the moderator workload - but maybe not

It would be great if everyone only posted what they would be willing to say face to face to a stranger at a friends house (not really knowing the person but aware that they are there because your friend likes them).

We certainly don't have to agree on everything - but we can remain friendly and agree to disagree!

Cheers,
Aedo

I would like to remind people that we do have a thread to discuss politics that has rules about civil discourse.

I approve. I came here to discuss and learn about cars, not politics.

There are plenty of other places to go in order to discuss politics.

the should be allowed.

they should be in a seperate area.

and they should be unmoderated.

no rules.

Either outlaw them, or a separate forum that doesn't show up on the main page. Political threads are what have killed the off topic of another forum i used to love.
