What Region Do You Think You Live In?

All right....I spent waaaaay too much time on this today but I was moving a post from Memphis, TN....and had to decide if it was South East Region or Mid-Atlantic Region. Many states are obvious, some are not. Without changing the names of the regions, which would leave 100's of posts in the wrong categories, this is my thinking when sorting posts. But I could be wwaaay wrong here.....what about NV or PA or TN or NC and some others.....Where would you consider yourselves to be? I'm counting someone's opinion way more if you're actually FROM the state in question. Thoughts everyone??

Pacific Region
WA OR AK

California Region

Within about three hours of me, NASA Southeast has events at CMP and Road Atlanta. NASA Mid Atlantic offers VIR. So I guess it's Southeast. Certainly, I am more comfortable being classified with something that has the word South in it.

I thought that too.....I think of NC as 'the south'....but when you actually look on a map, it looks like it fits with the mid-Atlantic section.....

But that's why I'm asking. When the dust settles, I will ask Randy to list the states under the categories so if you're looking for something in particular, you'll know right where to look.

I even wondered about re-grouping to match the SCCA regions, but that would be mass confusion, plus they divide states down the middle and stuff. Best to leave our categories alone and get opinions of who should be where.

So far, us folks in WA, OR, and ID have been using the Northwest forum, not the Pacific forum, which I think has been HI and I don't know what else.

Forget where they are as far as differentiating regions. NC is always the south, whereas MD and VA are transition states. They were in the south as far as the civil war goes so many long time residents consider themselves southerners, damn the map.

Technically, anything below the Mason Dixon line is "south." That's the MD-PA border. Then there's the "deep south" like in Deliverance.

No, three. North, South, and Deliverance.

EDIT: And if you base it on the Civil War, WV would be in the north .

Well, I'm really not thinking LotusTalk and Civil War alignments will be the same.....

Then where does Arkansas fit in.....I don't think of it as Midwest.....but then the 'Southeast' becomes huge!!! Especially if I add VA, TN, and NC

Tennessee is southeast. Mid-Atlantic are generally coastline states.

Northern NC would be Mid-Atlantic but southern could be considered South East.

It's really about who associates with who, because that's the entire point of categorizing the regions by forum. Do TN people associate with mid-Atlantic folks more, or Southeast folks more? I think SE.

I know what you mean.....but let's not divide states.....If I have to move or sort a post, I want to do it quickly, not have to open Mapquest, Rand-McNally and the Zip Code directory.

Lol... Then you'll have to accept some margin of 'error' I suppose I know if I lived in southern NC, my posts would not be relevant to guys in Maryland.

EDIT: They typically would be irrelevant. Not all the time.

I live in Wyoming and consider myself to be in the Rocky Mountain region. Maybe it should be double listed (the capital city is extremely close to CO)......Just a thought.
