Why no animated avatars? - LotusTalk

I know it was discussed before but I can't find it.
So, why can't those who joined after a certain date use animated avatars?
That's avatar, not signature.

Perhaps a better question would be, WHY use animated avatars? How does it improve the user experience for others who visit this site?

A user can't upload animated avatars.

Everything is a compromise. Some forums don't allow ANY avatars or embedded images (think Miata.net for example). Some have large sig pictures and animated stuff all over the place. Plus more smileys. I strove for the compromise that I liked. I know people can disable avatar images, but I like them. But having them move increases the bandwidth and the distraction from the content. So basically it was just my choice.

I did upload a few animated avatars back 8 years ago. So if someone uses one of those, it is animated.

Oh God! I just remembered when I was defleshing the coyote I made a video of it and the first thing I did was slap the jaws open and shut a few times while saying wokka wokka wokka. I never published it anywhere because it was too big of a file.

I was able to shorten it. It will be on my Facebook in about 30-45 minutes when it's done uploading.

edit: oops, already saved the info and I have to leave now. I have it as friends of friends right now.

OK, probably won't be a coyote but another pronghorn. If he gets one I'm sure he'll have me do it since the "professional" one he had done last year didn't turn out nearly as nice as mine. (as I pat myself on the back)
