Pete,

I haven't been in the thread in a while so I thought I would put this update in the thread rather than the normal e-mail.

I found interference with the plugs and the intake valves (only at full intake cam advance with lift engaged). Sigh. I was so ready to start back together with this one. I will be in contact with Wiseco today to see how much deeper I can take the valve pocket and how they recommend relieving the dome for the plug. I have what I think is a good idea and has worked well in the past but I would rather talk to them to make certain I don't cut to deep.

David

Word from David is that the pistons are the machinist's to make for some more clearance for the valves. Looks like we'll be at 14:1 instead of the expected 15:1.

Do you have a specific race fuel in mind?

Lots of motorsports shops carry it: Cantrell Motorsports carries it.

There is a 76 station in Auburn that carries it.

Pacific Raceways carries it.

I also use Torco octane booster when I can't get race gas and just need to boost 92 to say 95/96.

Any updates? I haves more questionesssss.

Why did you guys decide to create a custom race intake manifold instead of going with ITB's like Trial? I know the market for your race manifold would be greater, but the ITB's would have been b*tchin for NA!

And what are you goin to do about knock control? J&S? If knock wasn't an issue, how reliable would his engine be overall?

And what about the custom race header you guys proposed in the beginning? The Lotus PPE one should be produced and out by the beginning of next year

Just plugging away.

ITB's require a map sensor. Speed density is an inferior tuning system to maf imho.

Besides the intake flows 2cfm less than a itbs and the car is wired for a maf based pfc already.

Longevity depends on how it is tuned and how it is used.

Nice. I was also wondering why you didn't just go with the "plug & play" Hydra too.

4 reasons.

1. I have never seen a hydra plug and play harness. Hydra has talked a lot about things they don't have on hand as if they were.

2. The vvt-i tuning portion of the hydra is a joke. The scaling doesn't fit the rest of the maps. Tuning on the fly is just not doable with their current interface.

3. Hydras don't make the power the apexi pfc does. Probably because they are such a pita to tune.

4. I can peak power tune a pfc in less than an hour and tune a whole map in about 4 hours.....

My intake is more or less as you describe. It uses a huge t/b (for a 4 cylinder) and tuned horns.

318 posts, 15 months and still no engine, sleepless you must be getting a bit sleepy by now

You should have dropped a Honda in it. I just put a new header and exhaust system on mine. Remapped it on Friday and got a bit of a surprise....

232hp at the hubs and 176lbft of torque. An improvement of 30hp over the old system.

Engine is stock btw.

Trackday tomorrow

Nice results.

I considered a Honda transplant but I have yet to see anyone show me they can actually do it; and have no issues afterwards. So, as far as I'm concerned, it was not a viable option.

Several people suggested that I do the Honda transplant and implied they were going to do it themselves. I haven't seen any of them succeed; in the last 12 months...
