What do you consider to be the 3 SC kits?

BTW, I would probably go NA for your purpose.

I think the Tripoint unit in a few weeks should be tested enough that they can do the job for half of your budget, or maybe 10k from the posts of the guys over at the monkey board. If lotus is using a sc and not changing the compression and internals, then it should be good enough for us, plus the sc directly address the weakness of the 2zz torque. Plus look at it this way you have a track tuned 240R for less than 80K. elise 45, tracks mods 5-8k, sc 10K
ruffly 65k, still 15k less than 240r, which you can not drive on the street if you wanted to. The ecu thing is the only conern!

Thanks for this thread, sleepless. I'm in almost exactly the same boat: I want more power, and my budget is about $15k. Maybe $20k, tops. So I'm very interested in what you learn and what you decide.

Cheers

Turbo is sooooo much easier to make big power than anything else.

Not in my book Besides - nothing feels as nice as a turbo spooling up - it just starts putting you back in your seat and feeds on itself making more and more power. (your grin expands in direct relation to boost level)

Tri-Point Engineering can offer a very competitive Supercharger kit which will give you around 240 horsepower. The car stock puts out 160 to the rear wheels and with our Supercharger Kit you can get around 210 to the rear wheels. Our kit incorperates the Xede engine management computer and we also re-chip your factory ecu which allows us to lower your cam change over down to 5750rpm and disable the learn funtion on your 2005 Lotus Elise.

The complete kit sells for $5500.00 and we also offer professional installation and dyno tuning for $2000.00

For those looking for additional engine protection we can also offer the Aquamist water/methenal injection system using 4 injectors and a 1 gallon fuel cell complete kit w/ electronics and plumbed intake manifold for $995.95

Let us know if we can help.

Thank You,

Mark Shuler

I was talking to someone who knows someone...

who is working on a N/A 2zz. I was asked to keep it a secret at this time. There is an Elise w/ this engine running around now... so I'm told. They want to thoroughly test it before offering it to the public. They want it to be reliable as a track car. He said the solution will be available to the public as the initial batch of Elises comes off their 3-yr warranty. It's being tuned and being tested for reliability until then.

Here is the story I was told.
It was commissioned by a reputable shop. Engine was/is built by a professional engine builder (he builds engines for professional race cars we see on TV). It will be the 2zz engine w/ a lot of internal works. Will be street legal. Will use the factory ECU (no piggy back). ~250hp to the crank. Will try to keep it under $10k. This is what I was told and the person who told me the story really doesn't have any reason to make it up.

Is it this one?

Wilkins Motorsports is currently building a normally aspirated stroker engine with forged pistons, performance crank, rods, valves, springs, stage 3 Piper cams, head work, Moroso oil pan, ECU reflash, and a few other tweaks. We anticipate about 250 HP for those that want increased HP without a turbocharger or supercharger. We will be building and installing these engines in our Raleigh, NC race shop

+1. And, will there be an intercooler available for the Elise in the future, and if so how much HP is expected using the intercooler?

Tri-Point Engineering has done a 2006 Lotus Elise dbw and up to this point car has stayed in tune with out disable learn function (we have also done a 2005 w/o disable learn) The customer had us install a 4 injector Aquamist water/methenal kit for added saftey and all has worked fine. The tuning of the car is so important that at this time we will only sell the kits for the 2006 only if we can install and program as a turn key deal.

Thanks,
Mark

Street Legal and 250 HP, not possible. Knowing the issues with our ECU, not probable.

Well, I broke my $15K budget, but when the call came to see if I wanted to order an Exige S, I caved and ordered one. Still, I look forward to seeing what the NA options end up being...

You also reduced your desired HP spec - significantly.

I would say he improved his HP potential - significantly

It should not be too hard to get 240-250 with a pulley change and headers. He already has the headers.

Ah, but now you've taken away 2 advantages of buying the S. Once you put on the pulley you can kiss your engine warranty goodbye. And now you have to mess with programming of the Lotus ECU again.
