A revival
I thought I would revive this old thread for the benefit of all of you interested in following an engine swap. I am thoroughly excited about this project. So much so that I have offered my personal time and free labor (in exchange for a little learning and a beverage from time to time) to Exigeme. This thing is gonna ROCK!! Now for the project: Late one Friday evening I drove south to Lake Tapps and met a perfect stranger and was greeted by a beautiful example of an Artic Silver '06 Exige. After a spirited drive around town we drove our two cars, in the waning light of dusk, to his house for a cold one and some good ole fashioned "car talk." When I pulled in I saw what is sure to be the Mecca of all backyard car guys in the entire Northwest. Inside, I found a number of projects, each way beyond my own abilities. Re-soldering a 930 Turbo, completely built Land Cruiser (American muscle car Engine is just the start), and various other past projects. I listen as we chat about the past building of an Ultima GTR. What can you say at that point? How about, "uh, *gulp*, that's cool...uh, wow". Yup, Exigeme is the real deal an honest-to-goodness, wrench-turning, gear head and perfectionist. Then we stroll over to another partitioned off section of his shop and I see something even more interesting than the Land Cruiser's Engine indeed more interesting than the size of the 930 Turbo's rear tires. It was sort of like we moved from the lobby of the Doctor's office to the operating room on a personally guided tour of the surgery to come. A JDM K20 engine bored out to 2100cc's with all the goodies sat resolutely on the robust engine stand. I mean there was a couple grand in just the cams (still in the wrapper and box) that were waiting to be put to the test. Everything about this engine is just pure pornography. And I don't mean some sort of wholesome porno with Jenna Jameson either. I mean pure, Kobi Tai in a school girl outfit, unadulterated, RAW porn!! I will never let myself go to his house without a camera again. I have met Exigeme in person and he was even kind enough to let me drive his car. If you ever feel so inclined to do business with Exigeme. Let me tell you, he is a stand up guy and really knows his stuff when it comes to cars, boats, welding, building, etc. On top of all his ability and knowledge he is just plain bright and forthright, but of course, you should make your own decision. I am sure you will agree with my assessment though. Let me tell you that his car is in great shape and that the engine is absolutely perfect! As you may know, I have been in a few Lotus and have owned a couple too. Exigeme's engine and tranny are flawless. On top of that, the 8inch thru-diffuser 2ubular exhaust is a tremendously refined deep sound. The drive train pulled hard up the long hill to the Lake and is smooth in every gear. In fact, if for some reason I need an engine in the near future I'd buy it myself. So If you are looking for an engine keep your finger on Exigeme's PM Address. happy motoring! |

The swap
Just an update to those interested....after over three months of waiting for
my engine work to be done the project is about to start. Nothing earth shattering at all yet just thinking about how to lay this all out the way I like. Design parameters: Supercharged with a (twin screw) good torque curve and 400whp+ dry sump air to air intercooler lower center of gravity/light weight twin disc carbon/carbon clutch (13lbs total weight) custom engine mounts custom header and exhaust not sure about computer and dash (either Motec or Hondata) custom axles So far the costs have been expensive and will continue to go up. I have no idea how much it will all cost when said and done but for sure should be fun to drive. I will post some pictures when I have something new to show...looking at an engine on a engine stand or different components can be quite boring. |

boring pictures
Thanks Dave, I do not want to bore people to death looking at an engine
sitting on an engine stand unless there is something really special or different to see. The block was done by ERL, 9 to 1 forged pistons, B.C. rods, polished crank and coated internals. The cams are IPS supercharged cams and the head is running stock valves with skunk 2 springs and titanium caps and retainers. The head was done by Stewart Racing and flows over 330 cfm on a flow bench. Lots more stuff yet to buy before it gets exciting... Dan |

Was it a Jackson Supercharger you went with? I can't think of any other roots style ones.

Superchargers
Negative, have not actually bought a supercharger yet but when I do it will be
either a Autorotor or Lyshlom. Roots style were designed to work well at pressures under 10lbs and have peak effiency at 6-8 psi. Roots work best at 15psi or over where I plan to be running around 16-17 psi. |

Exigeme you should look up some of the guys on the mr2oc.com they are in the works of making a sc kit for the 4age that will produce 300whp. The torque curve is so flat making peak torque from 200rpms and holding till redline. I think its a whipple supercharger but that would be amazing if you bolt that bad boy into your car. Oh I'm more then up for free wrench work on your car if you want. "another motor swap that I'm helping with but as long as it's a midship I don't care."

Latest news
Removed the rear clam and 2zz with the help of another Exige lover, thanks Trev. Will be doing some side by side
comparasions between the Honda k20a going in and the Toyota coming out. Next step install Honda and determine spacing needed for engine with supercharger and engine location to make mounts for engine and transaxle. Have you considered making brackets to allow the rear clam to pivot up like the esthi-elise. If you do, I would certainly by a set.

Side by side engine comparisons
Have not done much the last few days but look over differences between the
Toyota and the Honda setups. The physical sizes are almost identical in height and width, the Honda is about an inch narrower in overall length but has a slightly wider trans-axle assembly by about two inches. In order to maintain proper drive-line angles the engine will have to be positioned slightly farther forward in the car than was the Toyota giving it a better overall weight distribution. Other differences I noticed are the use of lighter alloys on the Honda for things like clutch slave cylinder, trans-axle carrier bearing support and motor mounts. The Honda trans-axle also has a 28 spline half-shaft v/s 20 on the Toyota. Pics follow...see for yourself. ![]() ![]() ![]() No problem Raygr I have been a little cranky lately due to recent shoulder surgery and having to work with one arm so my sense of humor can use some help. Habendanio, as far as making hinges for the rear clam it would not really save much time because there is just too many other things that need to be disconnected.
