Weights

I do plan on weighing them both when I can compare apples to apples. At the current time I still
need to install the dry sump setup, cams, supercharger and many other things before that can be done correctly. I also would like to use some wheel scales before I finish but do not own any at this time. Anybody out there with some wheel scales that may be able to help out?

I'm just replying so I can find this topic about the engine swap later. I've chatted with the guy who has the K20 in his Toyota MR-S and he's very happy with it. I posted a picture a month or so ago.

Well, You may have to ask Joe M. That question. I think Exigeme is in a wonderful place that does not require emissions testing.

But at least in Washington state, if he did have to get tested, as long as the OBD-II port did not reveal any codes and all sensors give a ready status for the last three cycles, he is good.

I think CA requires a visual right? if so I don't see how this could pass in CA. but I think JOe M. is in cali right?

Oh and just who is that sexy man in the dirty white t-shirt?

Damn he's good looking. Don't let my wife see him. She be mad that he got so dirty.

Monday progress

I spent the good part of today doing math sizing a supercharger and looking for parts for my dry sump...still got
more work to do there. In the evening I decided to drop the k20a in position to see how things would fit and just
how difficult it was going to be to make mounts. At the moment it has the stock oil pan on it so it sits higher
than it will with the dry sump but all in all it looks fairly straight forward. Drive-line angles look good and
clearances look good in all areas but by the air conditioning compressor they are tight. I think I may be able to
mill the mount and place it closer to the engine if I decide to position the engine any farther forward in the car.

Goodness Gracious, Great balls of...

I don't suppose you'll have any work planned for the evening of the 24th? I'll be taking my little asian plaything to the airport around noon.

It's fantastic to see somebody with obvious talent doing this swap.

What dry sump are you going to use?

Ray, Peterson makes some nice pumps and Moroso will make a custom pan but I am thinking about another company. ADR-engineering.co.uk makes a
nice setup for road racing cars going to send them a message tonight and see
what it includes. I still want to see your car...you need to swing by sometime.
Soon both you and will have carbon twin disk clutches.

Zammy, The motor is a Honda K20a and yes the head was ported and polished
by Jim Stewart of Stewart Racing Engines. I flows very well, over 330 cfm and yet a great flow to port size ratio.

having looked very closely at the differences between our stock header and the ports on the new Honda, i'll tell you the difference is simply incredible. i mean, they are of course a bit larger, but the transitions and the port work are just smooth...super smooth.

The waiting game

I had hoped to be able to show more progress at this time but I have been playing the waiting game on parts that have been ordered. The engine has been in and out of the car several times as I contemplate ideas about where I could mount the supercharger without having to design my own intake manifold. I have come to the conclusion that I will be making an intake manifold. The supercharger arrived last week with no nose drive, it is a 2 liter twin screw autorotor, that I chose over the Lyshlom due to its rotor configuration so now I am waiting on that and getting frustrated. There is so much to do but almost all of the work is centered around engine location which that is determined by supercharger location and that has not been completely finalized. I have started designing the intake manifold and that has turned out to be an interesting and time consuming venture due to the space constraints from the added supercharger. The dry sump oil system will hopefully arrive later this week and that will also influence the engine location. I will post some pictures when I have something new and exciting to show.

Thanks Elptex, I am envious that you have a Lotus to drive while mine sits in
the garage in pieces!

Just give me a call when you need a fix. I need to check out my brakes before my next track day on the 4th anyway.

Tonight is good but my schedule is packed from tomorrow until Tuesday.

Unless you want to go near the 400 whp mark with a supercharged motor, this isn't the most cost efficient way to do it. If you do want 400+ hp, then a turbo would be a better alternative. You have to realize that the cost of the swap doesn't just stop at the engine purchase and the swap, you have to then invest money into building the engine, forced induction, getting a tranny solution, and then getting a ECU solution. I personally wouldn't trust the reliability of a swapped engine/tranny in a car that didn't at first have it, and was also boosted to high hp.

Grumpy's car is a 313 whp rotrex supercharged 2zz swapped MR2 Spyder, and he has stock internals. Should you get his setup along with the stroker kit, better bolt ons, thermal coatings, head porting, mods for higher revs, lighter internals, and cams, you could get a supercharged 2zz with even more hp.

Edit: NEVERMIND. I already see that you went ahead with the swap. GOOD LUCK!!! It will be a kick@ss car when you're done!

Bleu, have fun on the 4th tracking your car. Not much two person work going on because I am in the design/ fab stage. Currently I am working on locating the exact position where the supercharger will mount and that will determine the shape of the intake manifold. I am hoping to have a template completed by the end of this weekend for the intake. I dont own a metal brake so I have to have it formed then come home a tig for hours on end. It looks like TNT shipping has lost my dry sump so more delays there. This waiting kills me..

Uh.. S/C'd Honda and Turbo Audi conversions are the norm for these cars - an S/C'd Toyota mill is the relative newcomer.
