Anybody opened the valve timing controller (vvt sproket)?

i wonder if i should open the vvt sprocket , anybody did that before ? anything could fall or spring loaded ect. ?
thanks
for people wondering what i m talking about : Toyota OEM Intake VVT Sprocket 1ZZ, 2ZZ - TOY-13050-22012 van Toyota OEM - Monkeywrench Racing -

i hesitate because in the manual it says to 'not disassemble the valve timing controller assembly' page 9 of 26 : http://kightlinger.net/files/persona...AIN_REPAIR.pdf

I have.. You need vicegrips to remove the pentagon heads.. but you cant really torque them back down.. fwiw, I wouldnt reuse it after it's been taken apart unless you have the proper tools..

why do you want to take it apart?

vvti

because my oil was contaminated with a bearing that let go, apparently that vvti can collect particles, so instead of buying a new one i would prefer to clean it, and you ? why did you opened it ?
cheers

replace it.. trust me its not worth reusing it.. those sprokets are VERY sensitive to tq..

however, fwiw the metal screen supposedly collects "most if not all" the metal before oil goes into the sproket.. even then its only triggered when the solenoid is on..

We've taken many of them apart. Yes, if an engine fails and contaminates the oil the inside of the VVT sprocket is probably full of debris. It is possible to clean them but is not worth it in my opinion because it's a complicated piece inside and getting it 100% clean and back together properly is difficult. If it's reused dirty it can re-contaminate the oil or just not operate properly.

We have them on sale for $158, in stock.
