This is being done at the dealer. I do know that the dealer is pissed because the sealant they are using is expensive. I don't believe it is the sealant since the first pan leaked through a pin hole crack in the weld and the second pan is warped (not level) to the mating surface.

John,

Check it out when you are there. Just tell Don Reed to bring you back to the car, he'll show you what's going on.

Try using GE silver silicone for aluminum...they have it home depot. It's cheap and has worked better than everything else I've tried, including the factory stuff.

I was curious about the properties (temperature range, recommended uses, etc.) of GE sliver silicone for aluminum, so I went to GE's website for their silicone compounds:
http://www.gesilicones.com/
However, I can't find what you are referring to, and GE seems to have thousands (okay, maybe hundreds) of silicone RTV products. If you have a tube handy, do you have a more exact name for it and the GE part number so we could look it up?

GE stock#GE5050 silicone2 aluminum and metal...temp range -65f to400f.
We have used this on all the cars we have put this pan on and have had 0 failures.

Charles gave me a tour of your car on Friday. I am VERY impressed at the work he's been doing on it. I think that you will be quite happy with the attention to detail in the install.

Are you getting their shortened shifter while they've got it? I tried it out in another car while I was there and tacked it onto my order...

Just curious why you didn't just re-weld the first pan or use an internal epoxy patch compound on it? These pans are not OEM and may require some "adjustments".... I guess I'm used to making repairs on "new race parts".
Hand fabbed components often require some "additional work" to get them up to speed.
A warped mating surface is another story altogether though !!

Mine did require a bit of "working" Several of the welds overlapped the pan bolt area and had to be grinded. The windage tray had to be trimmed and the pan modified to accept the dipstick. It wasn't cheap at dealership labor rates, fortunately I have checked for leaks and thus far nothing.

Finally back in town from a long needed vacation. The Morosso oil pan has held things up but it's on the car now. We should have oil back in her tomorrow and finally get it on the lap top to clean up the E-manage program. I am also impressed with the work A/E has completed on my car. They are making sure everything is 100% before I get it back. I am very anxious to drive my car and I'm sure it's just a matter of a few days until this can happen. Of course this all depends on the oil pan actually working.

As for tweaking the oil pan, here are my thoughts.

1. The pan was designed for the Elise, why should you have to trim anything?

2. Reweld a $500.00 oil pan? No thanks, make the product right.

3. Try implementing a quality system and you won't have these issues.

Sorry if I'm being a bit harsh but it's just not good business to supply parts that need to be reworked to work properly.

Tuning has held up the completion of the turbo. We are very close but not quite there yet. The car looks great and the attention to detail with the install is top notch as expected with Auto Europe.

I think we are finding that the Lotus ECU is a pain to piggy back. Should know a lot more next week if the plan we have is implemented.

What are some of your issues with the tuning? Is it running lean at boost? Are you running off the maf or map?

On my Mr-s it was really rich at low rpms and then when boost hit it leaned out to dangerous levels.(14.7)

I thought the Hass kit came with tuning. Your install is really dragging on for something that's supposed to be a complete engineered kit.

It does come pre-tuned, but it has a basic map on it. You will have to get it tuned by someone who is familiar with emanage. I took mine to Matt at MonkeyWrenchRacing.

That might be why you had your leaning out problems.

I guess since you're new you don't know about the Monkey Wrench Elise turbo installation fiasco.
